There just isn’t any defense, no the answer isn’t fire Lindy, it’s just fucking play some D, the offense can get more opportunities if they don’t have defend so much

  2. IntrepidBandicoot757

Fire Lindy, grab a d man and goaltender if possible.

  3. Besides the power play, has the team done anything well this year? Even when Jack and Nico were healthy, I think we were struggling at 5-on-5, on the pk, near the bottom in goals allowed, zero consistency, bad defensive play, bad goaltending, mediocre depth scoring… We just don’t seem to be a very good team.

  4. Ruff is actively making the decision to sit Holtz while simultaneously ruining the goalies with this shit defensive system that gives up more odd man rushes than a brazzers video

  5. Skylightt

It’s pretty crazy Meier was actually able to hit Sandin like that with Wilson on his team. I thought that wasn’t allowed

  6. Skooter_McGaven

Palat is so so bad. He’s getting top minutes and turning the puck over every chance he gets. Yet Holtz is buried on the bench, the second he came on the PP he generated two chances. The obsession with Palat and hammering down Holtz is absolutely insane to me. I can’t believe we have to watch Palat for several more years. What a horrific contract

  7. Nemec, with a higher ceiling, making rookie mistakes > smith, who’s well on the decline, making boneheaded mistakes. This should be the first move

There is so much more that has to change though, good lord

  8. TheNightRain68

Really souring on Lindy right now. Team’s just not prepared for a full 60 minutes (usually the start) and we just play like ass. Holtz plays the least amount of minutes and was heavily considering benching him prior to the game and yet he’s a-ok with Smith taking dumb penalties and making bad plays day in day out. Doesn’t change any of the defensive pairings to start the games all year until it’s too late into the game even though there’s been issues with it all season. Allowing Jack and Nico to play right after getting nasty hits. Idk man, its tough to win without the top 2 centers on the team but this team is too stacked to have the offense be nonexistant for 45 minutes tonight. At least there were some bright spots, Timo and Mercer getting another goal each and Schmid having a 2nd straight game of .94+ SV%. But something desperately has to change in the next 3 days we’re off because next 3 oppenents are the Jets, Pens, and a red hot Rags team.

  9. dudehimself3

Glad Lindy is prioritizing dressing and playing loser plugs on his bottom 2 lines over trying to get something out of a top 10 draft pick.

Hope we keep losing and we are free of the geriatric fuck.

  10. Remember when Meier and Holtz were dominating on 5v5 during preseason and Ruff didn’t like it and hasn’t has them back together since ? Good times

  11. DontDraftSmall

We lost because VV played badly. You can’t have bad goaltending and slow starts.

  12. nostradamefrus

Bad night for Vitek. Better night for Schmid. Offense was flaccid despite flashes of what they can do without Jack & Nico in a few games. Bratt needs to chill the fuck out. Palat needs to do something as a veteran. Fire Lindy. Honestly. The man is squandering talent and his only solution is the blender. How about coming into the game with plans to address issues instead of making it up on the fly? This shit ain’t fun

  13. ryanwest19

Strip the A from Palat, roll Akira from here on out for a bit. Lindy lost that game for us, sorry. Why was Palat Lazar line out there with 2 mins left? No timeout taken?? Why do we fucking pull the goalie every time on a dump in when we can’t retrieve pucks for shit. Why in the fuck does Holtz get 1 shift in the third period when Bastian and Palat have 0 goals in their last 46 combined regular season games??

  14. I’m not a doomer. There is so much hockey left to be played, and even though we’re bad right now, we’ll right the ship and be unstoppable for stretches this season too.

That said I don’t think Lindy is the answer. I’m glad the players like him and all? But the actual issues facing our team are the same ones as last year. Lack of motivation and effort, not showing up for games until the third, no structure in any zone. When was the last time the devils set up an effective cycle? Taylor Hall?

I’ve been unhealthily following hockey for about 30 years now, and we are right at a cross roads moment I have seen countless times on countless teams. The players are ready to take that step to the next level, but just can’t seem to. Its always a coaching change that pushes them forward. Lindy got the boys to this level, and we will forever be in his debt, but the team has everything it needs aside from *structure*. Get someone in here who will teach them to support each other in d zone, and establish possession in the offensive zone, and that will really give our talent the space to flourish.

Not giving up hope yet. The only way the team will learn to overcome adversity is to face adversity.

Losing Two in a Row is Absolute **Ass:**

    * Its actually really fucking annoying that when this team decides to show up we fucking dominate, but we have yet to show up for a full sixty minutes.
    * Like first period was bad, second period we looked marginally better, showed up in the middle of the third and really looked like ourselves, but obviously by that point the deficit was too big to claw our way back.
    * **Positives?** 1) PK didn’t let up any goals. 2) Lindy finally changed the defensive pairs up. 3) We haven’t been shutout. 4) There really was a feeling there in the third that we could have tied it. 5) Two good games for Akira Schmid, but the score/end result don’t show the full story. 6) Sign of Life for Nico and Jack!
    * Um, everything else was pretty negative. 1) There was no like fight. No fight for pucks. No fight in board battles. No hunger. No drive. No fire. For the most part anyway. 2) The two shots on goal in one period was jarring. 3) Ondrej Palat. 4) Brendan Smith until he started throwing bodies. 5) The limited ice time for Holtzy. 6) All the damn penalties we took. 7) Powerplay.
    * I was ready to write a depressing ass post game write up, but that third period at least made me feel a lot better.
    * Without Nico, we’ve gone 3-3. Without Jack we’ve gone 1-3. I think beyond their on ice skillset, what’s really missed is their voices and leadership in that locker room, on the bench, and on the ice. It doesn’t really seem like there’s anyone thats really stepped up vocally since they’ve left. I know we don’t know whats going on in that locker room, but tonight’s game and the Avalanche don’t make me feel like anyone is saying anything that needs to be said.
    * We are are still (somehow) in a playoff spot, so there’s that. We are still over .500, so there’s that.
    * We do not look like we have yet to play our best. We don’t look like most of our guys are playing their best.
    * This was a bad week all around. Next week needs to be better. Jets, Pens, Rags. If we can get 5-6 points from those three games I’ll be happy.

I’m finishing my mac and cheese and taking an edible and passing the fuck out.

  16. Ignore the score, that was a bad game. Even with Jack and Nico we can’t just try to repeat last years performance. Playing hard for 10-20 minutes a game isn’t acceptable. Constantly coming from behind isn’t acceptable. If this year is gonna be like the 2019 post Taylor Hall MVP season I have no interest in watching. We might not be competing for the cup yet, but we aren’t playing like a team that wants it.

  17. Batfleck666

…and who’s the idiot that made this schedule?

Wrap up a 4 game road trip in Colorado, only to come back home for 1 game, then have to go all the way to Winnipeg, then Pittsburgh…come back home for 1 game, then have to go to Detroit…?

  18. themakiexperiment

Liked the surge in the second half, but starting to get frustrated how repetitive it is. I have no doubt they’ll recognize and fix

Some questionable face offs decision to hold off McLeod when you have shown already how much you trust him already

Ruff is cracking down on the rooks and im not against it. The leash isnt as long as they believe.

Finally, let Hamilton fly. He is one of our biggest offensive weapons out of all defenders AND forwards

  19. kudar_mubat

I tried telling ya. Y’all were planning the parade this offseason. But I tried warming that were injury prone and a prime regression target.

Oh well, it’s a long season

  20. poHATEoes

As embarrassing as that was just remember “The Hockey Guy” as us winning the cup so his embarrassment will be worse than ours lol

  21. MountainBaker8217

This is a message for Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes and uh, I guess, Colin Miller also?

**I understand you just witnessed that game from the press box and I understand that you probably are chomping at the bit to get back on the ice to put some spark back into this team and get their asses in gear and I love you for that (not you Colin Miller, I don’t know you like that yet).**

**But please. Please do not come back until you are actually one hundred percent healthy. Don’t try to power through. You guys being healthy in the long run is whats important not only for your careers, but the team, later on down the regular season, and eventually the playoffs.**

**I bet you’re super frustrated and probably feel a little helpless, but get healthy. Get to one hundred percent. You’re the heart and soul of this team (again, I’m sorry Colin Miller, I know nothing about you, my guy). You are missed.**

Sending you nothing but good vibes and health and energy and healing,

    A Devils Fan

  22. VindictiveRakk

Sharangovich just sniped one in the shootout for the flames, gave him the 2nd shot 🙌

  23. The path to success in the NHL is rarely a straight line. Eventually we will have two of the best league Dmen amd centers. All young, the defense got a lot younger and needs to learn. We saw last year what having a mostly veteran defense was like. It won’t be for a few years but this team will get there.

REMEMBER IT TOOK STAMKOS 12 YEARS TO WIN HIS FIRST CUP!

  24. Palat had the 5th most ice time among NJD forwards….. masterclass coaching there by Ruff

  25. DevilJacket2000

Ruff managed to say Vanecek blew it as nicely as possible. Goalie has to make saves. Both of those two goals needed to be stopped. Especially the second one. Injuries and horrible goaltending sunk this team two seasons ago and it’s happening again.

  26. marshall658

Really glad they decided to give Lindy a new deal before this season started for literally no reason whatsoever. I do not get this team and I do not get the coaching whatsoever. The same things happen every single game and nothing is done to even make an attempt to fix them. I really think it’s gonna be a LOOOONG season.

As for the defense, this isn’t an aberration. This is Lindy’s “system” at work. Out of curiosity I decided to look up how his teams have ranked in goals against the last decade or so going back to his first season with the Stars: 16th, 26th, 19th, 29th, 28th, 29th, 9th, 24th (so far this year) and add in 28th, 24th, and 24th if we’re counting his time as an assistant with the Rangers. One of those years should stand out and it’s last season with Brunette, literally the only time one of his teams has finished in the TOP HALF of the league. I truly believe we let the wrong guy go and I’m very worried about it going forward.
