Miles Wood hit on Siegenthaler, Dougie Hamilton hit on Miles Wood – Have your say!

Miles Wood took out Jonas Siegenthaler in the corner with a hit. Dougie Hamilton didn’t much care for it and immediately drove Miles Wood down from behind. The only penalty was a roughing minor to Hamilton. Should there have been more? Have your say!

  1. I don't like Wood's hit on Siegenthaler, but I think it's okay by the rules. The impact and proximity to the boards was not good, but they were battling for the puck, so I think it's okay? Not entirely sure on the rules there.

Hamilton's hit is different. Puck's away from the corner and Hamilton comes in late with the intention to get back at Wood. I think that's the main difference for me.

  2. The first is fine – he goes into his shoulder. Unfortunate that it rotates him into the boards but that wasn't the intent.

The second is straight from behind into a flat-footed opponent with intent.

  3. Wood can’t stay on his feet, whether he’s hitting someone or skating with the puck.

  4. Dude goes for his head. Dangerous play I'd say coulda cause neck injury

  5. But i will say this, he knows how close to the boards they are. Boarding penalty for sure 5 and a game

  6. At what point do these "legal" hits become too dangerous or deadly? I mean, we're using super slow-mo to judge intent and infraction, but when you see it from the stands, it looks bad.
We have the benefit of slow-mo hindsight from 2+ angles. My question is, do any of us want a player killed or maimed for life? Hell no. So, how many hits like this have to take place before the hitter goes on with his career while the one he hit lays in a bed the rest of his life? Is one incident per season acceptable?
Do we need a rule change? I don't know. But I sure as hell don't like all the blind and malicious looking hits I'm seeing this year. Legal or not. And remember, players are faster and stronger than ever before. Does that mean they should be able to survive ALL the hits they take?
Penalty or not, the retaliation was dangerous, but the message was sent.

  7. THIS KIND OF HIT BY MILES USED TO BE ENFORCED AS CHARGING. WHAT HAPPENED TO WHISTLES FOR CHARGING SHOULDER FIRST OR NO SHOULDER STILL A HIT THAT WILL CAUSE INJURY…. GET UR REFS UP TO SPEED….Ever since hockey GODS did away with 2 line passing violations this sport has tripled in injuries to its players. THE OLDTIMEY hockey players knew that to much speed would harm the sport…

  8. Imagine if dude would have been wearing a neck guard he would have broken his neck. equipment CANNOT BE be made that can protect players for the speed permitted with no 2 line passing violations

  9. Old School hockey used to be about SKILL not SPEED. ( Only until someone gets killed or maimed for life will they slow the game back down to the speed it was created )
