Should the Canadiens be concerned about Alex Newhook? | HI/O Bonus

After scoring three goals in his first three games as a Hab, Alex Newhook has now gone ten games without a goal and is struggling to play centre. In this bonus episode, host Jessica Rusnak of CBC Daybreak and our panel — Montreal Gazette sports columnist Stu Cowan, former Canadiens defenceman and assistant coach Rick Green and Andrew Berkshire of SDPN Sports — debate whether this is a cause for concern.

  1. Points production wise im not worried, he’s on pace for his best season so far, he was stuck being center between 2 pylons for around 10 games while he is no NHL center at all, +- the most useless stats of all was clearly affected by that.

The only thing im kinda worried about Newhook is how often he fails the most basic passes, not saying that he can’t pass at all, but 3-5 times per games it kills entire plays.

Also he has to be put in a position so he can use his great speed otherwise it’s nearly completely useless, Byron was notorious for his PK and 4 vs 4 break aways, maybe Newhook could be used similarly.

  2. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Come on guys, he just got here, he's still a kid and on a new team. Aren't there any better topics for discussion??
