Oilers Make a Coaching Change, Hoping for a Turnaround

Well, Woodcroft is out as coach in Edmonton. I don’t think that was the problem.

  1. They have the wrong player as Captain. It should be Nugent-Hopkins, not McDavid. A lot of this is on the current GM and previous GM. Feel sorry for Woodcroft.

  2. The Oilers to the fanbase (for years): patience patience patience, you've got to believe things will improve. The Oilers to their coaches (who have been with the organization for years): well we know you got the team going and into the playoffs where they lost to the eventual SC champs x2, and the best players scored points at a pace we've not seen in decades, and the power play was the best in history, and you were the best team in the nhl in the second half of last season…but we've given you 14% of this season and things aren't going like we hoped, even though you're outshooting the opponents consistently, so get out so we can replace you with an AHL coach with even less experience than you ever had as an assistant coach in the NHL and whose winning % at the AHL level is just under 50%

  3. Great points. It's like Jim Benning giving Garland 5x5m after he was making league min, Beagle and Roussel 4x3m, Myers 5x6m…. I'm glad the oilers kept Holland. He's going to make Benning like moves to keep his job.

  4. I at first thought Woody might be an issue, but honestly, the guy is a great coach. Numbers don’t lie, however, HOW DOES THEIR GOALIE COACH STILL HAVE A JOB? A decade of incompetence isn’t enough, they want more??? As an Oiler fan, I just cannot support this team any longer. By far the most clueless group of executives in the NHL. Ya, I’m out. Actually feels good lol. Rogers place should be empty next game to protest firing the only guy working his ass off to make this team better. Not a huge fan of Manson, but I hope Woody lands on his feet somewhere in the NHL, and enjoys the great success he deserves. For fuck sakes. He was the best coach Edmonton has had in a decade. That front office needs an enema. Was never my problem, now it’s not even a concern. Take care, and good luck to all you die hards.

  5. Using the fourth overall pick in 2016 on Jesse Puljujarvi is the nexus of 2023 problems. Imagine if they picked Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller or Charlie McAvoy. Then they never traded him for goaltending when he still had the potential label. That is their downfall. So many better choices and then not moving on until he had no value.

  6. Firing Woodcroft is a mistake. This team is not going to respond differently with the current setup because Holland in the big office.

  7. Bob Nicholson, Lowe and Holland need to be scrubbed. The pervert, sexual deviant owner Katz should have been removed by the league a few years ago. Edmonton's window is beginning to close; the roster needs major surgery. This ain't basketball where two or three studs win a championship!

  8. A good laugh from the money pucks power rankings if nothing else. Might want to rework their formulas a bit.

  9. After Ron Wilson and Randy Carlyle, they called the leafs coach killers. Let's see if NUMBER 5 will help these Oilers

  10. As a Wings fan, I knew the day the Oilers hired Ken Holland to be the GM that it would end up being a disastrous decision. How the Oilers ownership looked at Holland’s final years in Detroit and thought he was the guy for the job is beyond me. I’m thankful for all the good years of Holland’s tenure, but the fact is that he completely set Detroit’s future back through horrible management and giving out terrible contracts to players that had no business being offered the contracts they signed. I feel sorry for Edmonton fans.

  11. I knew that McDavid would be back for the Heritage Classic but he really should have been sat for at least a week after that game, if not longer. Whatever is wrong isn't getting better and that alone is worrying.
