More likely than not that Kane would make the Sabres worse

Kane hasn’t been good offensively since 20-21 and has been possibly the worst defensive forward in the entire league. And he just had a surgery that’s infamous as a career ender.

**Evidence.**
There’s too much evidence that Kane isn’t a good player anymore and would be a net negative. Kane’s 5v5 scoring rank the last 3 years:

20-21: 53rd
21-22: 83rd
22-23: 176th

So last year he was equal to Hudson Fasching.

And of course, defensively, he’s possibly the worst in the [entire league](https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1630656545661788165?t=hA_kPWy0_7afuvVvjVOPSg&s=19). Here’s a [second look](https://twitter.com/EvolvingWild/status/1628950883319914496?t=So2RaJOq4mZp3Nw2pGVRiw&s=19). And it didn’t get better after playing [with the Rangers](https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1664370666483724288?t=qMlnkdcgzILbeXQgWIxVDQ&s=19)

**Hip resurfacing surgery.**
As one Dr who performs the operation put it, ~ I’m the guy who ends athletes’ careers. Sure enough, NHLers are 0/3 trying to play again: Jovanovski, Ryan Kesler, Backstrom.

**Opportunity cost.**
Not only would Kane likely make the team worse — not even accounting for the hip operation — but the opportunity cost of eating up some of the cap and preventing us from signing or trading for another player, would make it doubly hurtful.

**If it happens.**
Look, given the above, this is pretty strange to me that the org would sign Kane. Maybe Pegula wants more butts in seats (despite already having made $710m from owning the Sabres and $2.7b from the Bills).

But if it happens, I’ll be puzzled, a little frustrated, but then I’ll be over it and will ofc root for Kane and continue to root on the squad.

At least for me, **life is too short and too hard as it is to get bent out of shape over my fav sports teams.**

Me a week ago: Screaming, crying, throwing up.

Me today: who fucking cares, we already have 4 older players being a net negative to this roster what’s one more.

I wouldn’t honestly put a ton into rumors. Gotta remember the Sabres and Capitals nearly agreed to sending Ovi here. Not to mention how many different locations did we nearly send Eichel. Can’t forget we put in a decent bid for pajama boy. What about when Husso was on the market?

Rumors are rumors. Until we hear he signed no sense in worrying. Frankly I’m thinking the rumors are more trade than signing and Adams doesn’t seem to put a ton into the star power of a player. Look at who he’s gone for. Erik Johnson for leadership, Comrie to bridge UPL to the NHL, he resigned Okposo and Girgensons for leadership.

Best guess for me is Kane is overshadowing the actual move being made because Kane is a star who isn’t under contract. His skill set we have multiple times over. I’m thinking Adams is probably looking at a defensive forward with some upside and a team wanting to make some cap space for Kane. He knows Kane isn’t worth it for what we need and he wouldn’t want to introduce a new toxic teammate in when we finally have a positive culture in the locker room.

To put it bluntly I’m guessing we’re going to get shocked by a move for someone from either San Jose or Calgary probably moving out Olofsson on a max retention. Both need someone who can do the fancy shooty shoot, but defense it doesn’t really matter.

Ok we’ll see soon if he’s equal to Hudson Fasching.

In 21-22 he had 92pts in 78 games. Defense aint good but idk where youre coming with he hasn’t had good offense in 2 years.

Hell, even last year he had 57 in 73, good for 64 over 82 while playing injured.

I’m not expecting him to come in and light the world on fire but if you give him protected 5v5 mins and let him work on the powerplay this is a great addition.

We genuinely don’t know what he looks like after this hip surgery. He was playing with hip issues for like 4 years prior.

  6. Yea this is pretty obvious it would be a bad move, and if adams would do it then he deserves any hate he gets for it

I hate that people don’t see this as an opportunity. There are plenty of players his age still playing well and I honest think he’s an upgrade over krebs, Olofsson or pretty much anyone on bottom 6.

Hes not going to cost a lot and he’s definitely an good addition/upgrade.

I want to believe that if Adams is trying to get Kane to come home to Buffalo, that it’s going to be on a massive pay cut. Anything else is insanity.

Oh no Kane is going to come in a ruin our incredible record by replacing our star winger Victor Olofsson
