Draisaitl puts more energy into being moody than he does on the backcheck. Until that changes goalies and coaches will keep getting fired. Too many passengers on the backcheck and not enough pressure on opposing players. I feel bad for Woodcroft really. Not his fault these guys only skate fast on offense
What a huge mistake. I can see Draisaitl pulling the pin after this mess. Bad decisions by management and then having to deal with Spector , who could blame these guys now. If Holland believes in the core he should have believed they would get this turned around. Now they have lost two incredible coaches, and it appears they have destroyed the room. Winningest coaches in NHL history. Small sample size compared to the greats but the metrics were excellent.
I hope I hear , “ we want woody chants at tonights game”. Don’t let Holland or Jackson escape this boondoggle move.

It is not like this team was the Vancouver Canucks who had strung together horrible starts. 13 games and Holland panics, what exactly does having all that experience mean if you resort to panic, when the going gets tough.

If the core guys had no say in the decision, and management misread the situation this badly, i fear we may be in for another decade of darkness. Weren’t you the one calling for the coach’s head in your column? “With only the faint hope of a wild-card berth as their fading goal, if general manager Ken Holland still believes his team has a playoff prayer, he will fire Woodcroft on Friday in Seattle.” Isn’t this what you wanted? Now you’re asking about a coach who didn’t lose the room and an organization that continually goes through coaches as if your hands are completely clean. I doubt the organization pays any attention to what you say, but unfortunately the fans do, and their voices can resonate through the organization. I’m glad Woody doesn’t read your stuff, and I encourage all fans to avoid your opinion as well. Enough of Doom and Gloom.
GM puts EDM Stanley Cup run into the hands of an AHL coach, to compete against teams like Vegas or Dallas. If they fired the GM, they could have saved a good coach and backup goalie and added some depth over the summer. Isn’t that what the players are saying silently?
I like Leon’s passion but at the same time he needs to learn to hide it a bit. I know that sounds stupid but you can’t constantly show your pissy and be upset because it rubs off on the other players. You gotta be that leader in that room show everyone else that it’ll be okay and boost the energy of the other guys. Leon’s making me depressed lately watching his interviews gotta clean it up my guy. He wears his emotions and he’s not good at hiding it and it just brings you down.
Many people are saying this decision is a big mistake. If the Oil fail to make the playoffs this year – and they most likely would’ve anyway had Woodcroft stayed (his new defensive system was a abject failure) then everyone will point to this coaching change as a mistake. But if they make the playoffs, and have some success, then it will obviously have been the right decision.
Firing Woodcroft as a mistake. It was a big big mistake and anyone thinks otherwise is crazy. New guy LOOKS good too, but Woodcroft was doing super well.
Draisaitl doesn’t want to play in Edmonton. He doesn’t want to talk to Edmonton media. Leon is a great player but his attitude is sketchy and I’ve felt even last year that no way he resigns with the team. Gotta move him, shake up the room and get some assets back. Yes he’s hard to replace but who else can you move and get something of value
