Different leagues and sports. But if Arizona can have a hockey team, then Vancouver can have a basketball team!

I think it will have very little impact. If anything it’s slightly positive over time as it’s a slight selling point for the cities themselves. Overall though I think it’s basically insignificant to the NHL. Everything the NHL is doing wrong, it’s doing badly enough that nobody needs to capitalize for it to be a mistake. The NHL would be struggling in a world with no competition just as badly.

It would probably help more than it would hurt.

I suspect this is just bait from Silver. It is an open secret that the two NBA expansion franchises to bring the league to 32 will go to Las Vegas (with Lebron eventually joining the ownership group when he retires) and Seattle (reviving the ‘Sonics). Silver is just mentioning other cities to try to increase the expansion fees, public contributions for stadiums, etc.
That being said, I think if NBA franchises were awarded to Montreal or Vancouver it would not have much impact. Demand for hockey in those cities (especially Montreal) is essentially full anyways. So even if an NBA franchise might gain some discretionary spending from current NHL fans, there are other hockey fans to more than make up for whatever that effect is.
The best thing to come out of any of that would be potentially new stadiums if they want to share with NBA, not that Montreal needs one with the Centre Bell.

Last year my joke would have been Vancouver has a hockey team?
I did however have a Starter Grizzlies jacket when I was a kid around 96

Nope, Leafs and Raps fans live in harmony.

Why would Vancouver go through this again after how little the league did to set them up for success during the expansion draft?

The fact that we don’t have an NHL two teams in Quebec . I don’t understand. The same thing in Ontario we should have at least one more team in southern Ontario . Hamilton or London Ontario somewhere down there. The biggest hockey market is not being taken advantage. .. can we please just get rid of Gary Bettman . Just go away.

Not at all I don’t think there is anything that can take the place of hockey in the Canadian mind set!

Anybody here who loves a solid sports documentary that answers an age old question; go watch The Grizzly Truth (out on SportsNet).
Great details with many involved as to why the team left Vancouver. I enjoyed it big time. Wish they still had the Grizzlies !!

An NBA team in Vancouver would be fucking awesome. I know the Grizzlies failed but I definitely feel like basketball is way more popular right now than it has been my whole life

Bring back the Montreal Expos but as a basketball team
Frayserboy2000
Nobody cares about basketball in Montreal lol
ReTep481
Of course it wouldn’t. Look at Toronto – NHL, MLB and NBA all have solid fan bases out there and continue to rake it in.
I’m all for more major sports being in Canadian cities!

Toronto sharing the Canadian market? Don’t know it that is going to happen.
