  1. Classy of Hughes to say about the former captain, I’ll tell you that for free.

But in all honesty, I’m expecting a somewhat lukewarm reaction from the fans. Mostly cheers, some boos but not loud enough to be heard on TV, and not exactly all 100% standing O’s in the stands.

  2. chompshoey

He’s right. He captained some pretty bad teams here and one comment shouldn’t tarnish his whole tenure. He did his best and I won’t forget those two ankle breakers he pulled off in the bubble against St. Louis. Hope he gets all the applause he deserves

  3. IamPriapus

Not sure what the reaction will be like towards Horvat. I’m sure the majority will applaud as they probably didn’t pay too much attention to the remarks he made thereafter.

  4. Anishinabeg

I’m not going to the game, but I’d boo him if I were.

The comments he made after that one game in NY last year were insulting to the city and the fanbase. He doesn’t deserve a warm reception.

Horvat was a rat that went runny to Travis all the time. He’s also the guy that parroted Travis with things like no video games on the road. Ridiculous pink with no spine. He was up mgt ass.

  6. beauFORTRESS

Horvat should be loudly cheered on his return. Any Canucks fans bitching about an off the cuff comment only give fuel to our rival fanbases about us being whiny bitches.

Don’t be a whiny bitch. Cheer for Horvat

  7. My feelings on Bo are mixed. Horvat was a decent captain, but I’m glad it’s Quinn now.

I wasn’t a fan of Horvat saying “it wasn’t good enough” after every game, but the team was hopeless, there’s only so much you can say. I’m not sure he did enough on the ice to drag the team around. He rarely got involved in scrums or really stood up for teammates or showed much emotion unless he was scoring.

Off the ice he was a great captain. Lots of tough media and political situations he navigated. Maybe he would have thrived with Tocchet, maybe not.

At the end of the day he was a good dude in a bad situation and I hope he gets a good reaction.

  8. This has been my point the past few weeks on this topic: If anything, give Bo a relatively warm welcome to show the current players that they aren’t playing for an ungrateful, emotionally stunted fanbase.

Meanwhile Reddit experts will tell you he was a shitty leader

  10. NerdPunch

Boo’ing Horvat when he returns to Rogers Arena would be such a loser move. If that’s your reaction, you really gotta touch grass and get some thicker skin.

Dude did a ton of charitable work around the community, and scored 200+ goals for this franchise. He was a solid ambassador for the team, during a tough stretch of years.

  11. blackpeppersnakes

Horvat was a solid Captain. He played his ass off in the final year and left us with a massive return. There’s no Hronek if he doesn’t play like he did.

  12. iampokeguy

I agree with celebrating Horvat’s return, but I also think it’d be hilarious if the fans chanted “I’ll tell you that for free” during the game.

  13. HanSolo5643

I do hope he gets a warm return. Yes, I understand the comments he made in his first game as a member of the Islanders, but you have to remember. He was the captain of some terrible teams in Vancouver, and he had to deal with the team being a three ringed circus and fans throwing jerseys on the ice. He did all that in a Canadian market. At any point, he could have said I would like to go somewhere else, but he didn’t.

    “Are they booing me?”

    “No, they’re saying ‘Boooo-Horvat!’”

From Canucks Army’s “Scenes from practice” the 3 leaders all had good things to say about Bo:

    https://canucksarmy.com/news/scenes-practice-canucks-leadership-cheers-bo-horvat-return-vancouver?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Petterssson: “First of all, I hope they don’t boo him. He gave it his all in his nine years he played here. He has always been a good teammate. It sucks that he’s not playing with us anymore. He’s always helped me. My first season, my English wasn’t the best, be he was always a guy I could talk to. And a great player, too.”

Miller: “Oh god, I’m not going to dip my toe into that basket. Obviously there were a lot of rumours and stuff, but he was a great teammate, a really great friend and a really good person. At the end of the day, no matter what happens with the response in the rink, I think in the room we all know what kind of guy he is.”

I’ve always felt there’s been an overreaction particularly on social media about Bo leaving and all that. Nice statement from Hughes.

  17. coltonjeffs

Bo had 1 not thought out Statement. Bo was a very good and professional captain for us. I say thank him for his time spent here and move on.

….that being said, if I was going to the game I would have a sign that says: Miller > Horvat, I can tell you that for free because I find it funny…but I would still celebrate Horvat.

  18. golden_c1utch

I never liked horvat that much, but I will be at the game cheering cause that’s what he deserves.

  19. helixflush

I like how he’s like ya let’s cheer for him then completely dismantle the islanders and get our points.

  20. helixflush

I only get to wear my Reverse Retro Horvat jersey once a year and Wednesday will be it.

  21. > never complained

Ummm, he forced a trade off of the team (and then bitched about the fans in the media).

  22. typeronin

    He’s right.

The only reason he’s not still on the team is because he was too good and we were too shit.

Was he our best captain ever? No. But it also wasn’t his fault he was here during the worst Benning years

  23. MichaelJordan248

He better be cheered. It would be disappointing if any other reaction occurs. He ushered in the post-sedin era that was pretty terrifying, and always took a step back for the sake of the team, and he played whatever cards he was dealt with class. Welcome back Bo.

  24. RoostasTowel

Thankfully with the team doing well currently I feel like its more likely that a fan will be happy to cheer vs if we were doing similar to last year

  25. RockAngelintheLoops

Big welcome back to Bo. He was a heart & soul player for the Canucks. 💙💚
