Draisaitl had an… interesting game to say the least

Nhl highlights today – New york islanders vs edmonton oilers resulted in a win for kris knoblauch in his oilers coaching debut. Connor mcdavid and leon draisaitl looked like their usual selves (finally) and I’m sure plenty of edmonton fans are watching the oilers highlights from last night with a smile. The next islanders vs oilers game might be spicier due to this, but I want to get your take on this draisaitl horvat play. 1. Considering what guys like Brad Marchand get away for deliberately slow footing guys every season, this is a nothing burger. How guys like Radko Gudaa are still allowed to play in this league is beyond me.

  2. I couldn't care less. Whatever it takes to get them out of being 31st in the league.

  3. glad the coach won and did not get fired. When mcdavid pouts, everybody gets fired. Water boys are next

  4. I guess Draisaitl really striving to be the Malkin to McDavid’s Crosby…

When another player places a cheap shot on Leon and he’s injured for the season, Oilers fans can look back to plays like this to see why.

  5. a 2-handed, overhead swing of a stick to an arm was 1 playoff game, which by NHL tradition equals 2 regular season. Same suspension should apply.

  6. Suspension. At least 4 games.
Draisaitl is LUCKY that the target rotated. When the "hit" (cheap shot) was started, he would have hit the knee from the side. That probably would have destroyed the guy's knee. Since the rotation happened, it hit from the rear…so the knee bent in a natural manner.
Honestly, this looks like something Marchand would have done (and, as a Bruins fan, I love the Rat…b/c he's OUR "Rat")….and I would have supported a suspension he Rat…er, Marchand, did it

  7. That's a 6 game suspension right there pal….a potential injury on that blindsided cheapshot to the back of the knees. Get a grip Leon📣

  8. Watching him get pissed off is hilarious but totally unnecessary and dirty hit, as the losing streak ended, he’s pretty fired up right now

  9. It's just straight up not a hockey play. I do think Drai deserves a 2 game suspension. There is nothing unintentional.

  10. 2min for tripping another 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct would have been better in the moment. he earned the fine, hilariously low $ .. Not a deterrent.

  11. My new favourite oilers YouTube channel. It was payback from the play prior. Rewind it back a bit further.

  12. It looked intentional. Suprised a minor penalty. The fact that the guy tripped him earlier and he just wanted to give the dude a tast of his own medicine… kind of childish. Next time just fight him and get it over with. Otherwise that move has no place in the game.

  13. that trip or whatever you wanna call it by Draisaitl was dirty. As someone who has watched Bo Horvat quite a bit, I hate to see that, get that out of here.

  14. Slew foot while standing still, a trip but not much else. Compare that to the slew foot by Brad Marchand last week, sending a guy uncontrolled into the boards, causing some injury. No supplemental discipline on that one either, a better case could be made against Marchand.

  15. I laughed out loud when I saw it. Drai is sometimes LITERALLY Shorsey. "Why throw away your stick in a fight? It's so dumb. You should just hold onto it and skate around slashing guys who are fighting your guys!"

  16. Draisaitl has developed a bit of edginess to his game. That was a bit like a slew foot but not nearly as dangerous because the player can feel what’s happening and you notice his feet do not go out from him as abruptly as a slew foot. It was a penalty and an unusual one at that. You don’t see people doing that, but I’ve seen enough slew footing to know how dangerous those are. Guys are on their backs so fast they have zero time to react and there’s always a chance their heads can whip back and hit the ice hard. If Drai had done a slew foot, I would be really pissed at him. This penalty doesn’t bother me a whole lot. He might get suspended for a game because this was so unusual and the league might want to send a message to other players – “Don’t start doing what Drai did. We don’t want to see that become routine.”

  17. Lol, 5k for a 2 hand crosscheck with the stick parallel to the ice across the BACK of the ANKLES? Good job nhl 👏

  18. Absolute BS play. Dangerous and reckless. NHL needs to make a statement and suspend him for 10.

  19. He probably doesn't respect bo Horvat especially after the comments he said after leaving Vancouver so to the New York Islanders if you're reading this protectable Horvat because there may be more to come last time I saw something like this it happened to the player multiple times and his career was cut short

  20. What a pig. He was pulling that shit on the Canucks. And no surprise Mcdavid was up to similar things against the Canucks as well.

  21. I think if Horvat get's badly injured we're looking at this completely differently. Department of player safety can send a message to the league, or continue to allow BS like this until someone does get seriously injured.

  22. If he gets fined next time he will cross check him in the chin to make it worth the money. The intent was to knock him on his ass not hurt him, that's still a part of the game, the penalty is adequate punishment

  23. I’m an oilers fan and as much as I love draisaitls game sometimes he just does silly penalties like that

  24. Greasy play but not particularly dangerous. The fine and penalty was the right conclusion

  25. My friends and I used to basically do this shit on the middle school playground, you kick the back of the guys’ knee in and they lose balance and fall backwards. Then you start laughing and be like “you got me good Ethan😂”

  26. Drai is a retaliatory man sometimes. You duck with me; I’ll duck you right back. He plays with emotion. I like the guy.
