After a disappointing season last year, the Flames have sputtered out of the gates once again. Calgary sits at 4-8-2 through 14 games, third last in the NHL ahead of only the Oilers and Sharks. Is it time for a rebuild in Calgary? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button shares his thoughts.

"rebuilds" is a mushy term
They were such a good puck management team in 21-22, it was just their shooting percentage was a little low and their offense could sputter at times. If anything I honestly thought adding Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar could actually make them better, if they could get some chemistry their offense could improve and I didn't think their defense would change all that much. But they got way worse on both sides of the puck, the offense never materialized and for some reason the defensive game fell apart too. Turnover after turnover. Their problems are largely self inflicted, and I thought it would improve over time but they're pretty much still doing all the same things that sank them last year so it's time to admit that it just didn't work out and it needs to be torn down.
Rebuild when they don’t have their 2025 1st 😂… this won’t end well
Good luck trying to trade that Huberdeau contract. How much money will they need to retain, and how much draft capital would they need to throw in?
They would’ve been a playoff team last year if Markstrom was above .900 % save and stole some 2-3 games. That OT/shootout record was horrendous too
Yes please….
They don't need to rebuild they just need to focus on bring up the youth they have. They also need to stop pretending like they should be contending right now. They have Huberdeau and Kadri tied up for a few years and they have a bunch of young talent, that needs NHL experience. Focus on building up team chemistry and building up Coronato, Zary, Pospisil, Pelletier, wolf, Poirier, and Morin. Aim to be good for when the new arena is done, that isn't a full rebuild and is gives a chance to guys who deserve a chance.
Rebuild from what?
The thing with the flames is they’re never good enough to make a deep run but never bad enough for good draft picks always somewhere in the middle it’s frustrating I think we should rebuild
Hubadreau has been a complete ghost since going to the flames, along with kadri. What a waste of money and opportunities for other players.
Why the flock does every segment on TSN and Sportsnet have to have a stupid name – The Panel, The Talking Point, 32 Thoughts, etc…. So fucking annoying……
Calgary should’ve rebuilt years ago.. 😅
How can these "experts" talk about the need for a rebuild without addressing the problem of the long contracts. How do you rebuild when you can't get rid of some of the biggest problem players?
Whoever signed Huberdeau to that contract needs to be fired
Yes
WE ARE ALREADY TERRIBLE JUST LOSE EVERY GAME SO WE CAN GET 1ST PLSSSS
Didnt the Flames owmer say that dont believe in "ReBuild"
They should have rebuilt the team a long time ago.
Rebuild. Great opportunity to get younger, faster, more skilled, and find someone who can play with Huberdeau since we'll never be able to get rid of that contract
rebuild offense; maintain defense and goaltending?
The moment Huberdeau landed i said. Miller will outscore him. Surprise Surprise.
How are they going to rebuild when they have tp give up first and second rounds to trade hubby and kadri
trade everyone you can, bench huberdeau, bring kids up, suck, get good draft picks so when we get the new building the team wont be dog water
Need to rebuild their arena and the entire dump of a city so players want to play there.
Bam Son
Yes.
2 years ago when this team was good, their Achilles heel was lack of speed. this current team is even slower and has less talent.
