Update on Chytil’s status(not great)

From Vince

>“Chytil does not seem to be any closer to returning to the ice. He was eligible to come off IR and play on Sunday. He did not. As of Wednesday, [he’s] still yet to take the ice since sustaining his [concussion]

>…you have to be concerned [with] the history of concussions here. One source [told] me that … Chytil has had at least four concussions in his career, if not more. The more concussions you have … the more likely you are to sustain another…

>This goes beyond hockey … this is a life concern. This time, it seem like it’s been really difficult for him to get back to the point where he’s comfortable getting back on the ice …

>It’s just not a good situation, even beyond the hockey stuff. I don’t think anybody knows when the next time we’re going to see him is. [Chytil’s] health has to be the #1 priority here. This is something to monitor and everybody should be concerned about right now.”

So this is like really bad for everyone involved

Drury is going to have a lot of work waiting for him in the future if our 2/3C is unable to continue playing hockey for health reasons. It’s getting to a point where we may have to start searching for permanent replacement options

When that hit happened, at first I was impressed because it was the type of hit that, in previous years, would have put him out; but he ‘took’ it and kept skating well. However, when he didn’t come back out, well…..

At this point it has to be a concern, not just for his future as a player, but a general quality of life issue as well. Damn shame, as it’s really seemed like he was finally coming into his own here.

Chytil’s health is obviously the main concern here but from a Rangers perspective, Drury should absolutely be preparing to add a Yanni Gourde type 3C at the deadline. We aren’t winning anything with Nick Bonino as our 3C.

That Trocheck contract is looking way better right now than it did before the year.

  4. Put him on LTIR Let him take off till after the Allstar break and recover concussions are serious after one let alone multiple at 24 years old

  5. This really sucks. But I 100% agree with the decision here. I’ve seen friends lose quality of life, struggle in school, and even have to just drop out and re-evaluate what they can do in life from multiple concussions. It’s no joke, and Chytil needs to take care of himself.

Fuck, I was afraid of this…

If he’s indeed out long-term, center obviously becomes our most pressing need. Unfortunately, I’m not sure we have many options looking at who might be available. 2024 UFA Lindholm would be awesome, but Calgary will ask for a premium if we try to acquire him this early in the season. Presumably the Flames aren’t in any rush and would rather wait a bit longer so more suitors can accrue cap space. Boston will definitely be interested.

[Any other names catch your eye](https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/free-agents/2024/center/ufa/)? Monahan maybe? Wennberg? Same problem as above though; no one is going to sell this early without jacking up the price…

    Please be okay Chytil.

I know, let’s draft even more skinny russians then force them into the NHL too quickly!

    This is awful .

First thing– we love fil, get we soon, and make the right decision for the rest of your life so you can live a meaningful life outside of hockey.

Second thing is we may have to explore options at 3C now 🙁

  9. JokinHghar

Yeah. It might be worth it to shut him down for the season. His health is more important than hockey. Let him fully recover.

This was honestly my fear with Chytil, I mean most of us saw what concussions did to Sid in his prime. We have been able to maintain without him so I honestly wouldn’t mind putting him on LTIR until at least the new year (health permitting obviously)

Not to sound flippant but If that’s the type of hit that’s going to sideline Chytil for months, how can he expect to keep playing in the long term? That was a pretty run of the mill collision. Hits like that are going to happen and it just seems like he’s only becoming more and more susceptible to concussions.

Man this shit is tragic. I’ve been hyping him up for years and was excited he was getting a real shot to play up in the lineup. Fil shows he has the talent and skill every time he’s been given the opportunity, and now in his best opportunity yet he’s dealing with this. Brings up bad memories of losing Mike Sauer 🙁

Even beyond the ice you hate to see the effect it could have on his quality of life. I just hope he bounces back alright, no matter how much time it takes. He was the first guy we drafted that was younger than me, so I always had a bit of extra love for being the first player I could call a kid.

And I guess for the sake of on-ice discussion,
Trocheck slotting back in as well as he has makes weathering a longer term injury manageable. With Cuylle looking like a legit NHLer and Gabe and Othmann in waiting, we’ve got some other forward prospects we could consider moving in addition to picks.

Man this is such a shame. We’ve all seen how he can play at the highest level…that streak he had at one point last season. He’s such a great player. Hope he recovers soon

  14. At this point I hope he hangs up the skates. Sports are fun to watch and I love rooting for this team, but it’s clear he should prioritize his life. Even though the makes this team better, that is not as important as having a good life. Cheers fil, we are all thinking of you.

How did they handle Zibanejad’s back in the day? Didn’t he have 5+ when he was around Chytil’s age but seems to be a non-issue since?

In any case, if we lose him that’s a huge blow to our future core once 10/93/20 etc are all on the decline. But the kid’s gotta do what’s best for his LIFE which is obviously 100x more important than hockey and the Rangers. Praying for his recovery, I’m sure he wants to be back out on the ice more than anyone. Shame that this happens as soon as he gets a real chance

I wonder if Calgary would be a Goodrow No trade.

Considering Coleman makes almost as much money, you could in theory trade Goodrow, a prospect like Adam Sykora and a couple second round draft picks. Kalman could be a long-term answer as a third line Center and we would get out from the Goodrow contract.
