Inconsistent Canadiens show they can compete with the best | HI/O Show

On this week’s HI/O Show, host Jessica Rusnak of CBC DayBreak and our panelists — Montreal Gazette sports columnist Stu Cowan, former Canadiens defenceman and assistant coach Rick Green and Andrew Berkshire of SDPN Sports — discuss whether the Habs will be inconsistent for the rest of the season.

They also weigh in on head coach Martin St. Louis’s decision to split up Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield as linemates, the Canadiens’ much-improved power play and the decision to send Joel Armia back to the AHL’s Laval Rocket.

  1. Great show and au revoir Joel Armia. I would love to see a guest on the show and please start with Paul "Lord" Byron.

  2. Here, on the gulf coast of Florida, I don’t follow the lightning, but I do look forward to your show every week. Keep up the great work. question: I’ve been criticized for suggesting this, but what about taking all bodychecking out of hockey? Maintain fighting and poke checking but get rid of body checking?

  3. I don't like the way they are playing Cole on the sidewall. He should be shooting from the slot where he can see both sides of the net. Put Slav screening the goalie and Cole from the slot will score plenty of goals!

  4. Good episode. Caufield and Suzuki became too predictable and teams adjusted. Splitting them up "for a time" should be beneficial at least in the short term. Try new things, new lines, etc. while they are "rebuilding" GHG

  5. Personally, I don't care about wins at this stage but I really care about the quality development of the younger players. This is where the emphasis should be. Keep on acquiring talented young players and develop them well. Then the wins will come on a regular basis but let's go one step at a time. Question for the panel – I find this team to be very soft. They don't hit, which makes them much easier to play against. Does the panel agree?

  6. as they have been, most notable Van and Vegas. played very well against those teams, just haven't been getting the results.

    but that'lll turn around!!

  7. Slafkovsky engaging in the play more absolutely!!
