Fabbri, Fischer & Veleno Line Great in Win over CBJ | Defensive Lapses and Goaltending kept it close

The Detroit Red Wings play a better, but not great game, against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it was good enough for the win. The 3rd line of Fabbri, Veleno, and Fischer was the best line for the Wings all game, generating a ton of scoring chances for, and preventing plenty against. We also got goals from top line players like Raymond and DeBrincat, as well as goals from Fabbri, Sprong and Walman. But like I said, plenty to work on too. Detroit still gave up too many odd man rushes against and Husso needs to make saves on simple shots against. Finally, Jeff Petry and Ben Chiarot are an absolute engima. #lgrw

  1. 1) IMHO, I don't think Derek " newsie" Lalonde is cutting it. Anyone who tells you his nickname and prefers that they are addressed as such to me is a joke!!
    2) DROP Raymond down a line or three. Honestly, I really wish that Steve would trade him.
    3) Husso complained at the end of last year that he was fatigued
what's his excuse now??? Bad defense in front of him??? B.S. too many softies. Trade him.
    3) Has anyone seen Mo??? Fact is the two best defense men the Red Wings have are Walman and Ghost.

  2. I think Brian accidentally explained why Lyon hasn't gotten any starts. Yzerman's holding onto him until he gets an offer he can't refuse… if we play him and he tanks then we remind all the other teams that he's historically been a backup-to-the-backup… he loses the mystique and his trade value drops.

  3. I agree with the other post its time to give Lyon a shot, I think Husso has proven he can't be relied on to be that 1A starter. He makes some beautiful saves but also lets in some soft goals every game it seem.

  4. I do think you have a bias against Petry and Charot. They haven't been great but none of their D has. Ghost 5 on 5 has not been good at all lately.

  5. The fact that Petry & Chiarot finished near the top of the anal stats proved just that. Anal Stats

  6. Robby Fabbri (0.89) and Joe Veleno (0.69) led the way for Detroit. That makes sense when you consider the dominance of their line (with Christian Fischer) over the course of the night at five-on-five.
That trio played 10:05 together, and in that span, they were on the ice for two goals for and one against. However, a better illustration of their game control comes from xG, where they put up 1.868 xG for compared to just 0.354 xG against (a monstrous 84.1% share).
It was a dominant night from the Veleno line, a welcome revelation after Fabbri did not appear so sharp in his return from injury Tuesday against the Rangers.

  7. "That line was excellent," said Lalonde of Fabbri, Joe Veleno, and Fischer's performance. All three just hunt the puck, get above it, creating turnovers, zone time. That second goal our team scored to make it 2-0—what an identity goal. Those guys were on the forecheck, they hunted it, they had a Grade A. Fabs just misses it, they get back on top of it, and he puts it in the back of the net a few seconds later."

  8. Coming from a goalie, Husso’s stick save was not dynamic or athletic it was pure luck lol

  9. Husso hasn't been that bad, the team gives up so many chances and takes way too many penalties

  10. Reimer has been a starter several times throughout his career, starter as in he played the most games of any Goalie on his team. He has been part of a lot of tandems, Gustavsson, Bernier, Luongo, Kahkonen. 21-22 he played 48 games and the next highest on the sharks was Hill at 25. Last year was the only year in Reimer's career he had a save% below 900 and that's pretty impressive for a guy on his 14th NHL season who people consider to be a career backup.

  11. I can’t believe that Robbie Fabbri has AIDS on top of all the other injuries that he’s had to suffer through..
it’s the Magic Johnson aids, so it’s no big deal really.

  12. Guys, my God. You've praised Chiarot multiple times already this season. Plenty of people can see he's playing well. And he's played on the PK from the moment he got here. And of course he's out there in the final minutes, teams don't start double shifting their top players to protect a lead.

Sometimes it's like your inner narrative overrides your memory and eyes. Watch him. Over the course of the game you will see Chiarot break the other team's pressure, make a good breakout pass, charge center and dump it in if he has no options, and keep offense alive with smart decisions. It baffles me that people can't see it.
