oilers look stupid i hope they trade draisaitl to ottawa for tyler boucher
We don’t have time for a goalie to develop we need to win now with the two best players in the world
Detroit picking Cossa over him looks like it could be a L too early to tell still but Wallstedt will likely be better than Cossa
Completely agree. What was Holland thinking?
Imagine he was still on the oilers
I live in Pitea (Holmstrom,Renberg,Mattias Ohlund amongst others) 30 mins away from Wallstedts current club Lulea and have sen him play quite a few Times. What I am so impressed about him is that he’s a really solid goalie. Cant remember many ”Easy goals” he has let past him. Big in size, great positioning but still flexible when he needs to scramble for the puck. It’s gonna be a steal for Minnesota when u look back at this draft. Happy New Year!
Upset Sabres did nor draft him……..Wallstadt and Power would have been amazing draft….
How Ken Holland still has a job after this debacle is beyond me. He had a chance to grab a franchise goalie TWICE and still screwed the pooch.
Oilers are struggling right now it’s tough to see. Tippet needs to go we need Paul Maurice
Maybe I'm missing something, but how can a goalie have a 1.55 gaa in one game? 🤔
If he's so good , why did Steve pick Cossa in the draft ?
As a Flames fan, I gotta say, i'm pretty happy the Oilers passed on this guy.
In the Russia Sweden game wallstedt didn’t actually get beat for each of the 3 goals. All fluke goals
I was watching that draft live as an Edmonton fan I was just WTFed
The hang up on Wallstedt was limited puck moving abilities. Handoffs to his defensemen, clears, not venturing out after dump-ins and instead choosing to retreat back to his net. Not seen as actively aggressive and rarely used poke checks to dislodge puck carriers coming into the goal area. Steve probably had Chris Osgood look at hours of footage comparing Cossa and Wallstedt.
Only time will tell who will be the better.
I can't think of any reason EDM to pass him unless they think their best cup window years would be before he's in the league. Still surprised Detroit chose Cossa but I trust their judgment on that and hope Cossa turns into a boss at the NHL level
Look at Carey Price, at the time Montreal didn't need to draft a goalie as they had Jose Theodore, Cristobal Huet, and a promising-looking Yan Danis. But they still drafted a goalie, and it was the right decision.
Can you make a video about your thoughts on the Red Wings taking Cossa over Jesper. Obviously don't rush it or anything but it's something I'm interested in hearing from you
As a Oilers fan I can completely fine with Bourgault and Skinner is gonna be a great goalie
The oilers are my second favorite team. This Pick made The Wild tied for 2nd. And you know who’s fault that was KEN F***ING HOLLAND
Edmonton does not make good hockey decisions and most players don’t want to go there. Better of
Late compared to Mctavish, Chiarelli, ect ect. Holland to me is washed up and not the Holland of past.
Well, ALL teams beyond picking 5th should give their heads a shake. Detroit will regret not Wallstedt too.
skinner isn’t as good as you oiler fans think
McDavid would have loved Wallstedt..
Kenny Holland fell off after the year he took franzen
It hurts.
yay we gave up a good goalie
At least bourgy is smashing the Q…. I hate Holland
Wallstedt could of Made Edmonton a presidents trophy candidate in 3-4 years
Yes 100% oilers passed on him the reason being is Holland 100% believes in skinner and thinks he’ll be our starter one day. And skinner looks great sure his ceiling isn’t gonna be as high but skinner is a great goalie
its not shocking when its Ken Holland making the decisions
The Oilers are "managed" by idiots.
Watching that draft was painful as an oilers fan:
1st omg omg they can still get Cossa
2nd Yzerman does a gear change, shifts down, snipe!
3rd omg omg they can still get Wallstedt
4th ken Holland plays himself some 4d chess
We all just hope he wasn't playing against Magnus Carlsen…
Btw you didn't mention Munzenberger's showing in world juniors, was one of the best on team Germany which I take as consolation :sob:
Bourgault is doing pretty good
Only thing I could think of why they pass on such amazing goalie, is cap issue and how would they keep him once his contract ends after first three years. And he wants more than the gm wants to give him. Since some prospect can turn the franchise into some amazing years or just big bust and draft him for nothing.
So why did everyone pass on him then?
Honestly don't even see why Detroit would pass up on him. But Edmonton totally played themselves.
The Wild have their draft day behind the scenes video up on their channel. I think Billy G. could barely believed the Oilers made the deal.
Minnesota is already such a good team and they have an unbelievably bright future I’m so excited
I’m so completely fed up with Edmonton right now😐😑🤦♂️
This blows my mind too! Been watching alot of games with Jesper, and im blown away by the level he's on for his age. Its like he see the game in slow motion and he can stare down just about anyone. In 5 year from now people will talk even more about wtf the oilers were doing
The Great Wall of Saint Paul
Holland doing Holland things in Edmonton 🤣
Thanks for a more or less correct pronounciation of Luleå.
This becomes highly interesting after the aquisition of Fluery'
Edmonton didn't want to draft a player that they would have to wait years to come in. mcdavid is doing all the work and they believe that getting mcdavid help is the priority. well….now they have to hope that they don't regret passing on wallstedt because he could become elite and all people will talk about is how the oilers passed him up
As an oiler fan i was floored by this trade i wanted him to be picked by us i was more in shock after this then the broberg pick
Watching that draft and Wallstedt sliding down the draft board, it still seemed obtainable. We traded up to get in front of Boston who was rumored to be interested in taking the goalie. Now with Fleury here for two years training him, and Gustafson still a young goalie as well, that could be a great tandem. Wallstedt’s development will coincide with the cap restrictions finally running off the books. Future is extremely bright here with a top 5 pipeline behind the curtains.
Imagine if the Oilers had a goalie right now
