Disappointment in Sweden | Red Wings Blow Lead Against Maple Leafs

The Red Wings had a 2-0 lead heading into the third against Toronto heading into the 3rd period. They would lose 3-2. Detroit handled its business for the first 40 minutes, playing aggressive and successfully stifling the Leafs top scorers like Nylander and Matthews. But once the 3rd began the Red Wings fatigue from back to backs, short bench (Walman injured early) and conservative mindset made it easy for the Leafs to turn the tide and DOMINATE with 3 easy goals to win the game. And, of course, badly timed penalties, defensive lapses, and 0 PPG helped along the way. Somethings gotta give. With Czarnik waived, will see Edvinsson? Raymond had a nice Global Series though. #LGRW

  1. Coaching needs to change ASAP. Lalonde does not fit in the Wings plan to be a winning franchise. Lalonde spends too much time telling the press that the Wings have "a long way to go" before what? Before becoming a contender in the NHL? Lalonde does not come across as a winner or winning coach. Can care less for his Master's degree. Let's get a head coach and assistant coaches who are winners in the NHL. Also, the Wings organization needs to give players like Mo Seider tips on becoming a clutch player, because he is everything but a clutch player thus far. Seider needs to take slap shots at the point or just inside the blue line at the net. Seider passes the puck way, way, way too much, when he should be taking the shot on goal, especially if there's traffic in front of the goal. That's what Nick Lidstrom used to do, but Mo Seider is no Nick Lidstrom. Mo Seider, so far, is just way too overrated a player. And Seider needs to be smart and not get into skirmishes on the ice instead of playing good defense and taking slap shots from the point. Seider in the penalty box doesn't help the Wings at all….

  2. Why does not call time outs when he sees the team struggling? The Wings in preseason had a play on the pp which resembled how Toronto scored. It was a pass through the crease with a wing off to the side. Cat did it with Larkin. Last year they did it too. Tanguay, to me, is the problem.

  3. It was obvious Detroit ran out of gas in the 3rd period. A shame the way the NHL scheduled those games both Minnesota and Detroit were forced to play back to backs while the other teams were rested.
Edvinsson should be called up. His potential upside is far more than stiffs like Petry or Chiarot. They let Seider play as a rookie and he proved he belongs they need to do the same with the Swedish kid

  4. I 100% understand the criticism of Detroit's defense, but there are 5 players on the ice. 2 defensemen and 3 forwards.
A good defense starts up front & not with the defensemen.
Detroit often has very large gaps between attackers and defense.
I really don't understand why nobody talks about it.
Can someone please explain to me why Americans are so quick to be negative about their own team? No matter where, be it Facebook ; Twitter , YouTube or whatever… after a win it's the best team & after a loss it's directly the worst team ever…
The team is definitely better than last year & anyone who sees it differently; should find another sport to watch. It's not going well right now, no question… but they're also just unlucky with some things.
Plus, the games get "easier" in December. There are 16 games in December & Detroit should win at least 10-12, if not, THEN you can say the team is bad.
    LGRW !

  5. In the Sens game, they just didn't show up. We can't spot teams a three, four, five goal lead and win on a nightly basis. They didn't show. It has little to do with a lack of luck. It's more a lack of effort. In the Leafs game, they simply left after the second period.

While analytics are great for some things, it will be challenging to beat the "they're a good team" drum while the eye test tells us differently, while the team completely blows leads or gives up four goals. So our Corsi % might be great, but our actual performance is not.
