According to this article ([https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/bucket-list-when-and-why](https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/bucket-list-when-and-why)) there’s a new rule about helmet colors:
> While the Canes had to get approval from the league to wear their red helmets with their road sweaters, following Toronto’s wardrobe decision this weekend, news was shared that the NHL has given the okay for all teams to do so moving forward.
>
>The only exception to the rule is that the team cannot wear the same colored helmets as the home team. So, for example, Carolina cannot wear red buckets when playing in Calgary and Detroit.
I wanted to see what that would look like for the Devils. I know they don’t actually have a red helmet, but what the hell.
I think I wanted to like this more than I do. Keep the white.

Green helmets from RR 1.0, Jersey jersey, and the red yellow and blue pants from RR 2.0 for the worst combo
Just for reference. Black/Red helmets rarely have white chinstraps. Which might be why you’re not so into these. Regardless, I do like the white. Always have.
I think you set the tolerance on the color replace too low. Better to adjust the hue of the helmet, which preserves specular highlights, i.e. “glossiness”. I think the white will still probably look the best but with the right finish red or black wouldn’t be as weird looking as your picture.
White helmet looks best for the away setup IMO
