All the Oiler fans I know lament the fact the Oilers were up against the cap and unable to trade for available goalies Hellebuyk or Gibson. They were also unable to retain Kostin. I am going to lay all the blame for this season at the feet of the GM. All of the blame. There is a glaring lack of depth. They are up against the cap.
Pickard's first NHL game for the Oilers. He made several good saves in the 1st period (only one I heard when I'm typing this). He faces a lot more rubber than Bobrovosky (2 1/2 times as much at the end of the 1st). The Kane goal in the first period came off of the work of Ryan and McLeod as Foegele made the change to get Kane on. Ryan made a great feed on it.
General Stats Opinions: Okay I couldn't listen (or watch) the whole game. Nurses, need we say more. So what I see is pathetic with a side order of don't give a crap.. The end of the first period the Oilers had like 5 or 6 shots and Florida had 13 or 15. Not good. They got caved in the faceoff department (other than Leon and a lucky one by Kane). For me the biggest WTF differences are 29 penalty minutes for the Oilers and 17 for Florida (which are both VERY VERY High) and the Oilers getting ZERO on 3 power play tries and Florida getting 1 on 4. I know the 10 minute game misconduct to Kane didn't help (especially as they were already down a forward playing 11-7 so suddenly is 10-7). It explains why his minutes are down at least. Why is Erne even still here. As near as I can tell he does a whole lot of nothing. If Lavoie was up and actually got to play on a skill line (as that is his forte) we MIGHT see what he can do but no, keep a leaf bag out there on the ice.
Yeah, McDavid got 2 goals (including one on the Penalty Shot) and Draisaitl got an assist. Isn't that wonderful (while loosing 5 to 3). Someone needs to get the PP going. Someone needs to get the defensive lags fixed (like 16 games ago). Someone needs to teach McLeod how to throw a hit and finish a check otherwise trade his useless posterior elsewhere along with a few others. Vinny, I appreciate what you normally do but a 5 minute penalty makes you a liability. Sorry but don't be here. Broberg, you're playing your offside all the time, play the left side somewhere (not here unless Kulak can suddenly play the right side). A lot of the D men don't hit, some don't block. Sorry but that's a BIG part of your job. Do what you can to disrupt play or prevent the puck from getting to the goalie. Figure it out. I'm sorry but Coach Garlic doesn't do 11-7 nearly as well as Woody and Mans. Leon over 25 minutes and Connor at exactly 24. They're exhausted. No forward in a regular game should exceed 20 minutes (ish). Even Florida did it (Montour, Reinhart both over 23 minutes). Nuge absolutely BLEW DONKEY CHUNKS on the Faceoff tonight (2 wins, 10 losses).
Any player who isn't ready to go the whole 60 needs to AWAKEN (or be benched until they prove they can do it including McDrai or find another place to loose at). That was your rant of the day, hope you enjoyed it. Take care all.

This season is a disaster. With the two best players in the league they are competing with San Jose for the first overall pick in the draft. Shake it up. Get rid of the marshmallows on the third and fourth lines and get some grit. Surely there is some players that will throw a check every now and then . Is there a goalie in the KHL that desperately wants out of there that they could smuggle out. Think outside the box. If it takes a trade of Drai so be it but Nurse has to be a part of it. No retention of salary. Maybe trade to Columbus, Laine, Povorov and Elvis- Drai,Nurse Campbell and First round swaps.

Anyone thinking if we trade for a goalie that the Oiler problems are going to go away is delusional. Until we get the blue line corrected we are never turning this travesty around. Its also pretty disconcerting that the best "RYAN" on the team is Derrick Ryan. RNH had one shot on net last night along with his two out of twelve faceoff wins and then lets not even get started about Ryan Mcleod who has not scored in 17 games this year. It’s not a mental problem. It’s a physical problem. The majority of the players don’t have the endurance to play a full hockey game. They have 2 periods of good hockey in them. That’s it.
Notice when they win they play good in the 1st then they coast thru the 2nd so they have some gas left to play a decent 3rd period. When they play hard in the 1st & 2nd they have nothing left in the 3rd & can’t protect or regain a lead. The puck stays in their end as they are too exhausted to make a sustained push.
The vast majority of players don’t have the endurance for 20 minutes of ice time. The only way to win a game is keep ice times below 20min for nearly everyone & coast thru the 2nd period & hope you’re not too far behind at the start of the 3rd & can catch up. That strategy can get this out of shape team 30 wins & that’s the best we can hope for right now. If they try to pretend they can play 3 periods of competitive hockey they won’t even get 20 wins.
