Promising Jake Walman Update! | What Is the Level of Concern With the Red Wings Rough Stretch?

Derek Lalonde shared with the media Monday that Jake Walman is ‘possible’ for Wednesday. That may not sound overly promising, but considering everyone thought the injury was much more severe, this is definitley positive news. Lalonde also shared that they won’t consider a callup unless he isnt good to go on Wednesday. But, this team needs some kind of shakeup defensivley, could Simon Edvinsson be that guy? Also, Detroit is 3-5-3 in their last 11 games after an exciting 5-1 start. What is our level of concern for the Red Wings season given this difficult stretch? #lgrw

  1. Level of concern 4. The team is not playing like a team yet. We've seen there absolute best and worst, but like Scott said, we don't really know who they really are. Also, I don't pin as much of this on the goalies as I do overall team defense, in which I include the goalies. Too many odd man rushes. Not standing people up at the blue line. Mo and Walman aren't even playing good D by their standards. The power play is in shambles. I also think Larkin is playing hurt, cuz he has not had any pop lately. Lucas Raymond may be the best player on this team the last two weeks. This is all fixable. They have some time to get things figured out, but not much. Lastly, their schedule has not been easy.

  2. Not really “concerned” they are what they are. Very bad defense, weak offense, below average goaltending, Yzerman as GM and his yes man as coach. No reason for concern. It is what it is

  3. Bad goaltending, bad on the blue line, hot and cold scoring, 3&8 in their last eleven My level of concern is zero, I'm convinced this team is cooked.

  4. Hard to watch a 10 game strech in november….teams above the playoff line by thanksgiving is like 85 percent playoff bound…what is scott saying?

  5. Level of concern – 0. My expectations are low. I wanted to believe this team could do it but that's not what I'm seeing. Barely missing the playoffs isn't progress if we don't see young players. They should jettison anyone they can that will not be here in 2 years and bring up every young player they can (including Danielson) so they can develop. Seeing what the young guys can do at this level is important for this team's future. Some lottery luck would help as well.

  6. Im not too concerned. We knew this was going to be a tough month. Next month's schedule is much easier so let's see how that goes. My biggest concerns are goal tending and the teams ability to generate scoring chances. Especially the 2nd line. I just really want them to break up Copp and Compher.

  7. I would say a 3. However, my expectations were not that high. Playoffs yes, but very close.
There are still 19 games until the end of the year and only 5 of them are against teams from our own division. I expect a maximum of 4 points from the next 4 games (Devils, Boston, Wild, Rangers)
After that, if the team is a playoff team, they should have a win streak of 5-7 games. ( relatively easier opponents ).
    If not ; good night

  8. It's a 7 because we're now in the thick of it instead of having a lead and the schedule ahead is rough. Changes need to be made but there's not exactly a sign they'll happen immediately.

  9. Something to think about of D-pair advanced stats without Walman:

    Ghost – Seider (50% GF% and 59.0 xGF%)
    Chiarot – Holl (81% GF% and 52.9 xGF%)
    Määttä – Petry (50% GF% and 86.6 xGF%)

So you can put together three positive pairings with right partners.

  10. Plan A. Just stop using wrong guys together. Chia sucks with Petry, but does great with Holl. Määttä sucks with Holl, and does well with Petry. It doesn't get any any easier than this. Our coaching staff can't be this dumb.
