Guys I know Kane isn't as needed as defense, but let's think logically for a second. If the leafs do get Kane what do they lose? Some money? Well it's not my money so who cares lol. The other thing they'd lose is a roster spot.
It's very rare that you can add a player of his caliber without giving up assets, so if you can grab a guy like Kane on a good deal for a year and not have to give anything up to do it? Sign me up for that.
The other thing to consider is the amount of cap allocated to the big four. In the rest of the lineup you really need players to outperform their cap requirements. If the leafs can sign Kane for around a million, amd he plays like a 5 million dollar or 4 million dollar player then that's value. The problem arises when someone is making 5 million per year and only playing like a million dollar player.
Stay away from Zadorov. He's willing to publicly try to force a trade on CGY. This is a disrespect to the fans, the franchise, and his teammates. Just very unprofessional. I don't care what you can bring to the ice for what dollar value, this is not the character to add to your roster.
Kane is a gamble I'd rather just stay away from. Save the spot for hardnose playoff type player IMO. Would love for Kane to do great and show me up though.
Kane is another small forward with ZERO grit, the leafs have more than enough of these style guys. Knies, Bertuzzi and JT are the only guys that go in the dirty area's consistently. Kane great player in his Chicago years but he had guys going to the dirty areas for him. He would never crack the top 6 and would be useless on the 3rd line. Zadorov, Tanev, Lauzon and Trenin are guys the leafs should be looking at.

They need 2 big, tough Dmen or there's no way they compete for the cup. You have to have a heavy, defensive back end. The past 5 or so postseasons have proven that.
