Yes good article, author laid it all out well.
Im not an Islander doomer, season is not lost yet by any means.
Was wondering if Lane would be fired upon returning home from Calgary, team needs a shakeup bad and a real head coach makes a real difference (see: Philly).

This was already posted here yesterday. Pretty bad article written by someone who’s never thought about the islanders other than checking their capfriendly page. Wild that people pay for this shit.

The season is not lost by any means. But there are clearly issues that need addressing and it doesn’t seem like they are in a rush to fix them. The third line is a nightmare with two players clearly in a rapid decline and another who hasn’t developed, or their penalty kill which has fallen off a cliff. Most of all they aren’t addressing the big elephant in the room that they must add another competent defenseman and forward.

I’m not paying to read the athletic so I can just offer my opinion NOT based on the article.
It’s a double edged sword. On one hand he has done some great things for the franchise. On the other he has made some bonehead moves. Kind of like every other GM in the NHL….
I fault Lou for a great many things but honestly this is more on the players than anything. We have a decent roster which on paper should be much better. Something is holding this team back. Not every team in the NHL is full of star power. We have several players who should be making more of an impact yet they are not.
I have long suspected there is a country club atmosphere in the locker room. Players simply don’t care enough. They are getting paid either way. I suspect some of the long tenured guys are perfectly contempt to just wing it, and that rubs off on the young guys.
Perhaps there is a locker room cancer we don’t know about because Lou keeps everything so secretive?
I can tell you as a Captain, Lee is complete ass. Based on the eye test he doesn’t do jack shit to motivate this team or put them on his back and carry them. But in his defense prima donna pajama boy was a shit captain too. I would give the C to Nelson or Horvat at this point.
I don’t think that the no facial hair thing makes a difference. I think that is Lou’s attempt to build a team cohesion mentality which is not a bad thing. If the players reject this, it could be part of the reason we struggle. Maybe we have more prima donnas we don’t know about?
All in all I personally think the best path forward is to retool, move out underperforming players no matter how popular they are, bring in players that want to win and will do what it takes to do so. Get a coach who will hold them accountable for their lack of effort, and implement a system that balances offense with defense.
As far as GM, if we get rid of Lou we need to get rid of ALL his people. Including his son who I have no doubt is currently being groomed as his replacement. I have less of an idea which former GM’s are available than I am of coaches, so who gets the shot? I have no idea.
We are a mid level team. I’m happy if we are not a laughing stock. Like everyone else I want to see them win. I do NOT want another scorched earth period like the late 90’s.

I can hear the athletic staff up in Toronto chortling and tripping over themselves from here

This is a team going nowhere, if you disagree give me proof where they have proven otherwise. All ownership cares about is the seats in the new Stadium. Winning hockey is not on the payroll.
