Evgeny Svechnikov isn’t going to the KHL (at least its not confirmed), he hasn’t been re-signed to Detroit and he’s a free agent this summer – so where does that leave him?
Coming back from a season ending knee injury, Geno was looking at starting fresh in 2019-20. Svechnikov was reaching a very confident place in his game this past season just as things got called off prematurely. His production and growth were converging and he appeared to be ready to make a tremendous NHL push.
Was his final season of his entry level contract impressive enough to woo the Red Wings’ management into signing him for a few more seasons? We think so.
What do you think? Has Svechnikov earned another crack at the NHL or is it time for Detroit to move on?

Great videos love the channel! Could you maybe do one on Dmytro Timashov?
I’ve never understood why he hasn’t had a good look in the nhl.
Great vid, have you done one on Joe hickets
I think one thing that hurts Svech is how Ras came back from his injury. Ras still showed marked improvement. Svech was taking longer to do so. It may be an unfair comparison, but it could have an impact on optics. I think he will get every chance to make the team next season due to not being waiver exempt though. Regula aside, I don't think Yzerman is into throwing away talent for nothing. So, he will get his shot.
Wings didn't give Svech a chance last year when he was waiver exempt. Instead kept playing bums like Abdelkader and Erne. I'd love to see him in the NHL full-time but I think the organization has given up on him.
Think he'll get extended and likely lost on waivers during next season.
Even if he woud go to the KHL, the Wings would keep his rights but its not like they are using him in Detroit.
