Will McDavid actually leave the Oilers?

We’ve seen big name guys like Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachuk and Jack Eichel leave the teams that drafted them for a fresh start in recent years. As this season gets worse and worse and with both McDavid and Draisaitl coming to the end of their current deals, is there a real possibility of one or both leaving the Edmonton Oilers? You certainly couldn’t blame them if they did, but is that what they meant by “cup or bust”? I don’t see it happening.. I cover it in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. I think it’s narrow minded to think that draisatl needs to be an oiler. That’s a lot of cap to patch holes. And when you have the “greatest player alive” that should be enough. Buffer him with a secondary talent as good as Drai and you also have to pay for it.

Maybe it’s time to trade the prized pony and fix the whole field. Also, Nurse is the big drain. Friedman and them keep saying he isn’t, but it’s a numbers issue. He take up too much cap to suck this bad. And when he is basically rolling out a red carpet for other teams to drive the net, you have to face reality. It’s not unique to nurse, the whole D bench for the oilers sucks. However, none are paid like nurse. Guy makes more than Cale Makar with a fraction of the production. Eject him into space, take the hit and get someone fresh in there.

  2. one of them must go or it's BUST, and guaranteed McDavid will be traded before he is a UFA, the oilers will want to dictate what they get back as they will be in full rebuild mode by then

  3. Canadian teams aint gunna win a SC for a VERY long time. already been 30yrs. its not profitable for the NHL competing for market share in USA amongst other 3 major sports. Expansion era is all about USA teams winning cups to help nhl grow the game in the USA where its difficult to compete for market share. hockey is a very expensive sport for parents to send their kids to hockey camps from young age with a very slim chance at making to pros and even then. So this whole MCd + Dri = Gretzky + Messier hype that has been pushed onto us by hockey canada cbc nhl etc etc, sure its comparable but they aint gunna snatch no 5-6 cups in a decade let alone 1. mcd is a GREAT player, but how can a team play with him at his level. Even dri they got GREAT chemistry but theyre wasting their careers palying for canadian teams that wont win a cup regardless esp with teh shitty management coaching trading and everything hockey related. The game was SOLD to the USA long time ago and we aint seeing SC for long time. Hopefully before we die we can win 1………………Wouldnt be incredibly ironic if Oils dealt Mcd & Dri to another west coast team like Sharks or Ducks mimicking the gretzky trade; those 2 teams are in a good spot for total rebuild and wouldnt hesistate to clear space for these 2, even Preds n Hawks could be good landing spots, theyre not gunna join a stacked SC competitor team bc the team they go to will build around them, but if they go sepearately its possible

  4. no one should blame him if he wants to leave. the money doesn’t hurt, but i’m sure he wants to have a championship before the end of his career, and he’s just wasting his prime in edmonton.

  5. It is what it is. You have a team that wins more than any other team when it comes to the draft, and their team is so mishandled, like peewee hockey team mishandled. You just got to ask yourself, would I want to be part of a team that is treated like a shit show or take a blind chance with one of the 31 other none shit shows?

  6. If the top office of the Oilers stay and McDavid moves…hense …we see the problems with the the Oilers for the past almost 30 years. When the brass is worth more that the players…oh oh! In other words…you get rid of EVERY PIECE OF WHITE SHIRT DIPSHIT BRASS FIRST!! The Oilers had 4 Stanley Cups before trading The Great One and kept the brass! How ya doin jakoffs!

  7. If McDavid or Draisaitl want to win a cup, they better leave Edmonton. The players that left their draft teams had good reason to and found success when doing so, except for Johnny Gaudreau, but he’s not an elite player in my opinion. Columbus screwed up signing him. But Eichel would’ve never won a cup with Buffalo, Tkachuk would never win a cup with Calgary and may have came the closest he ever would with Florida last season. In fact, if he didn’t suffer a broken sternum he may have won a cup last season, that team was the hottest team of the playoffs but didn’t get the luck in the injury department, the more healthy team (Vegas) won.

Edmonton has been poorly ran for a decade or more now and now the time is closing for McDavid and Draisaitl. They’re going to be entering the downward years of their careers in a few years. Conor and Leon are in their prime’s now, they can’t piss that time away in a shitty organization like Edmonton if they have hopes of winning a cup.

If they TRULY want to win in Edmonton they will prove it by signing for LESS money than their current contracts so they can bring in more skilled players to complete the lineup, but all indications are that Draisaitl wants more than McDavid’s current contract – if this is true, they’ll be putting the team further into the Toronto Maple Leaf’s situation and will guarantee the death of their cup dreams. You can see how well it has worked for Toronto.

  8. I think both McDavid and Draisaitl should go as a pair. Whoever grabs them is an instant contender and in the right place, that would be a potent trade. Sure you'd have to give up a lot but like I say, in the right place that wouldn't matter.

  9. It's so sad to watch them playing this badly, I really hope both of them stay and they freshen the defence up. I love watching the Oilers in full flow, Connor and Leon are unstoppable on their day. Management are as much to blame as the players though, the number of times they've fumbled is unreal.

  10. If he wants a cup he has to leave Canada. There isn’t enough money in Canada to justify them ever getting a cup again maybe Toronto but even then it’s not happening anytime soon

  11. Well two things can be taking from this season. 1. His character. He's really never been in this situation has he, does he have the character to over come it, he's the captain after all. 2. Aside from that, yes he'll leave. If he wants to be in the same category as Sidney and Wayne then he'll need to win a cup or two and it doesn't look like it's going to happen now in Edmonton, I think ship has sailed.

  12. Due to the salary cap, contending teams don't have the space to trade for McDavid or Draisaitl…. and I doubt either player will wish to join a bottom-feeding team.
