[Russo] As part of Native American Heritage Night and to honor his wife, who is native, Marc-Andre Fleury had a custom-designed mask created by Cole Redhorse Taylor. Mask quotes his dad on back, has names of his kids. He’s bummed the NHL has informed him he can’t even wear in warmups

  1. This is a beautiful mask! It pisses me off that the NHL won’t allow him to wear it during warmups. What a crock of shit 🤬

If he wore it anyway, what would they do, honestly asking

  3. For those checking the comments:

Fleury wants to wear it, has said he’d eat the fine. But the NHL has also threatened the team itself (not just him) with a “significant fine” if he does according to Allan Walsh, his agent.

Bad look for the league right now.

  4. Beautiful gesture and beautiful mask shame the NHL cant get it right

The NHL will fine the team if he wears it. So we all know what to do here. Does the team have a Venmo account? Would not be the first time everyone came together to support flipping the bird at authority lol

Do it anyways. I highly doubt Guerin and Co are gonna bitch about whatever the league throws at them

  7. piantissimofan00

Have they said what it is about the mask that makes it so he can’t wear it?

  8. kammikazee

Everyone keeps saying the league will find him and the team so he isn’t going to, but why does the league not want him to wear it? Yes, nhl bad, but did they give at least a token reason?

    Idiot leadership.

Just a constant stream of Norwoods.

This is just the definition of making problems where none existed MF’s banned the jerseys because they don’t want to force players to wear pride stuff fine, I guess. I don’t agree but if it’s none of the jerseys period okay, but why the hell can’t individual players have their own shows of support it’s just ridiculous. Now you are literally taking away the rights of players to support causes especially charities as in the case of this helmet which was supposed to be auctioned off as game worn.

I have a question – what if Fleury wore the mask on a different night? Sounds like a stupid question, which it is, but it’s because it’s a stupid rule. This is what the rule states:

    >uniforms and gear for games, warmups and official team practices cannot be at all altered to reflect, support or acknowledge theme nights.

So what if Fleury says ok, I won’t wear it for the Heritage theme night. I’m going to wear it a different night to honor my wife.

It technically doesn’t break the rule, right? And obviously the NHL intends to stamp out wearing it at all, so could he do this as a way to technically abide by the rule as written, but go against it in spirit? The NHL would have to prove that Fleury is wearing in order to acknowledge a them night on a different night – best of luck with that. I don’t think they’d be willing to do that. Then it would set precedent for maybe others to bend this stupid fucking rule.

Think it would be an idea worth pursuing honestly. Fuck this clown league and it’s clown rules.

It sucks, but after all the fuss over LGBTQ theme nights and people frothing about those jerseys during warmups, it makes sense that they just don’t do any of them. No military appreciation, to Native American heritage, no cancer awareness, nothing.

Since folks can’t handle some of the warmup jerseys, it’s easier to just not do any of them and then everyone is happier. That’s not my opinion, but I understand why the league is saying this.

I’ve watched less than 3 games this season and in previous seasons it’d be crazy for me to miss more than 10 games in a season. It’s not about skill. NHL has ruined this sport in their league. College hockey is where it is at now. @NHL respectfully- GET FUCKED.
