It was really easy for me to walk into the recruiter's office, sign a few papers, take a test, and finish boot camp. It was easier than Football camp in HS.
Learning to do what UFC fighters do is about 10,000 times harder than what I did. Also, we volunteered so it was our choice. This myth of being a "hero" because you volunteered needs to stop. If it's so hard, there wouldn't be over a million active-duty personnel. That's not including the reserves, or the guard. There are only a few hundred UFC fighters. Colton Smith is epitome of douche that makes veterans look bad.
Colton is far and away one of the most genuinely good people I've ever known.. If you ever spent even five minutes hanging out with him, you'd see what a great guy he is. And he's right. MMA is hard but it's nothing compared to what the active military goes through daily.

I served in the old guard with this guy back in 2008. I remember walking into my barracks room as a young private and meeting him. I saw him years later at Bagram AB in Afghanistan and was semi star struck lol. Crazy path he made himself, wish he would have kicked ass in the UFC but oh well
