Campbell has been a total disaster for the Oilers. He's a good example of why you shouldn't put tons of stock in a player based on one good/great season. That all star season he had with the Leafs is looking like an outlier not the norm.

Only one defenceman and no goalie aint getting you nowhere. This has been going on for years, no playoff caliber goalie, a bunch of wingers playing defense, and no bottom six and yet Woody's gone and Holland is still here.

Here is what I don't understand.
It's basically the same team that won 50 games last year.
Last night there were 2 different teams. 1st team that played the 1st 40 minutes. 2nd team that played the last 20 minutes.
They are capable, but show no urgency and do not play a complete 60 minutes.
Can't be the goalie or coach.

Oilers are famous for trading away good players. Jordan Eberle brings back memories of a good player that isn't around anymore.
Management in the Oilers camp pulled a knee jerk reaction by firing Woodcroft & putting Campbell on waivers, thinking it'll fix everything, but clearly, it didn't. Just because they have the star of the NHL on their team doesn't mean they're going to win the Stanley Cup. Goaltending is a problem, but the bigger issue is the lousy defense. McDavid has been in the league for a few years now & teams are learning how to shut him down. It happens with every star player, so this isn't new. He's great, but they need to build around him & they haven't done that. Great players need to be on great teams. Gretzky wouldn't have accomplished winning all those cups without great players around him

The team is almost identical to the team that almost beat Vegas last year; this is 100% on Jeff Jackson; I can't imagine Woodcroft being dumb enough to try this defensive system when we don't have the appropriate personnel to execute it. This must have been forced on him from up high. And yes Holland gambled on Campbell and lost that bet (but we were all complaining we needed a goalie and Campbell was all that was available at the time), but this isn't Holland's fault either. Now we have a new coach clearly brought in by Jackson (Holland never would have fired THE WINNINGEST % COACH IN OILERS HISTORY) who says "Sure we can make this D system work", soon Jackson will hire another buddy Gagner to replace Holland.
To fix this mess? Katz has to replace Jackson NOW. He is singlehandedly destroying this team

I am tired ppls always blaming goalies. They had goalies who has been Vezina finalts before or after they played in Edmonton. All goalies playing better outside of Edmonton. Its deeper problem, its start from higher seats than GM. If you dont keep your best player accountable in defence zone play, you cant blame goalies if they dont get help from players. Defence is 5 man job, not only 2 defenfers job. Problem is now that they cant outscore they defence problems as before. Is any other captain gone through so many goalies, coaches and GMs? as McDavid in less than 10 years?
