When Campbell was sent down, he had a better save % than Skinner. Skinner wasn’t sent down because the Oilers didn’t think he would clear waivers. Let’s see if the team can play solid defensive coverage for a stretch of time and give Campbell some support. Either way, if they go back to “deer in the headlights “ defence, we’re doomed, regardless of who’s in net.
Jack Campbell isn’t an NHL goaltender. He should be placed on LTIR and sent to figure his game out mentally. Last shot, if that doesn’t work then buy him out. This is maddening, I cant see this being a good move.
Even if they bring Campbell back they need to start playing better defense and help him and Skinner out. A lot of those goals could have been prevented if they played better. Not giving Jack a pass because he should have stopped a lot of those goals too. Whatever his problem is he better have fixed it or the Oilers really need to find a home for him and get someone in who can stop a fricken puck. One shut out doesn’t mean you’re fixed!
Ken Holland was a goalie a long, long time ago before he became a scout for the Red Wings. Think he actually played a couple of games in the NHL. Hartford Whalers, I think. Probably can find a picture of him somewhere. Suit him up. Maybe then he'd figure out how bad the defense can be. Don't want to dump on him but …..Easy for me to talk though. I'm on the outside looking in. Who knows what's going on behind the scenes? Hopefully, they're bringing Campbell back because they are working on some of deal with him. Want/need that cap space! If only they could play defense more often like they did against Washington. To hell with offense. We know we have that. You win with defense. Oilers actually shut out another team? Especially one with Ovechkin! Amazing! Washington didn't get that many good looks either. Haven't seen the team smiling like that since last year.
I went to the match last Monday against the Panthers. They looked like they were tired after the first 10-15 mins and defensively totally lackadaisical. Defense letting the Panthers sit out in front of the goalie and let them just muck in front and block goalies view! They need change of goalie and defensemen!!!
Campbell needs a new clause in his contract, every time you let in 5 goals…you give back $500,000 towards the Oilers salary cap…🤣 We shouldn’t need to score 6 goals to win the game

They needed Campbell to get into a steady stream of games no matter the outcome. Some goalies need to be worked.
