The Career of Phil Kessel

I decided this would be a fun player profile to do at this stage of his career.

  1. Shannon you called Kadri a sniper for Colorado even though he's only had two 30 goal seasons in his career, last season he didn't hit 30 either.

Meanwhile Phil puts up more goals than Kadri, eclipsing him in goals the past two seasons and is no longer a sniper? 👀

Kessel has been a top 10 player in the league for like 3 seasons and is probably the most under-rated guy in the league. People forget the Toronto teams he was putting up big numbers with were absolutely dreadful.

  2. The yotes are going to make the playoffs. Considering how hot it is in Arizona Phil will want to stay on the ice… (yes I know if they're knocked out he can fly north, but come on, it's possible)

  3. Zero mention of his playoff performance in Pitt??? The guy was a runner-up to the Conn Smythe TWICE, while primarily playing 3rd line without Sid or Geno.

  4. how do you not talk about his playoff performances with Pittsburg. That first season he wasn't good in the regular season but he had 22pts in 24 games on his way to the cup. (23 in 25 the next year too)

  5. Can't believe you didn't mention his playoff productions. He is a playoff BEAST 87 GP – 33 G – 44 A – 77 Pts. Playoff ANIMAL.

  6. I’m happy for him. He’s finally going to a small market, I think he will fit in better in a small market

  7. Just out of curiosity I decided to check up on his stats:
    19-20 Season: 17GP 3G 7A 10P +/- (-5)
    NHL Career: 1,013GP 360G 473A 833P +/- (-91)

  8. As a pittsburgh fan, i didnt think phil was being carried by his teammates. When malkin, crosby, and kessel went out i didnt think "nice, malkin and crosby are dangerous together. And then theres phil" i thought "what a three headed monster". Having three players that are all goal scoring threats on a line means the other team cant focus on shutting down just one of them, so even if phil didnt get a point on a play, just being on the ice could open things up for geno or sid

  9. Wait, so Kessel was putting up between 60 and 80 points a year with Toronto depending on health status, but HE'S the problem? The numbers suggest he was doing his job, it was the rest of the team around him that couldn't get it done. He's one guy, putting up 80 points in a full season. The guy can't play goal or defence at the same time. Something tells me it wasn't Phil Kessel that was the problem in Toronto – it was the fact that they could have had Dougie Hamilton AND Tyler Seguin instead. 2 guys who could have greatly helped their team instead of one.

  10. His plus/minus stats aren't great which is a knock on him for those that look at that particular stat. His career is winding down now in Vegas; 21 points in 51 games.
