Whats plaguing the Maple Leafs top line? – OverDrive

Bryan Hayes and Frankie Corrado are joined by TSN Hockey analyst Mike Johnson to discuss the lackluster play of the Maple Leafs first line and how they aren’t taking over games like they normally have in the past.

  1. I thought with Craig Conroy being Brad Treliving’s Assistant GM in Calgary that the two of them would have conducted at least one trade by now!

Calgary needs goal scoring as Huberdeau is a bust and Toronto requires defensive minded defenders such as Zadorov, Tanev and Hanifin.

Trade William Nylander to his birth city Calgary plus McCabe in exchange for Zadorov, Tanev and Hanifin!

  2. No team has ever gone 82-0, no matter how 'good' they were. What grates on me, is the Leafs outplay Chicago initially, going up 3-1 despite allowing a very weak goal by Samsonov, but then they just seem to play a constant game of turnover in all zones, missing passes, trying one pass too many (about 10 examples there) & botching easy clear opportunities in the D-zone, allowing Chicago more O-zone time than they deserved. Same old story, instead of putting the inferior opponent away, they let let them hang about, gaining confidence & you piss away 2 points. A truly sloppy, turnover laden game by virtually all of the Leafs.

  3. nothing wrong with the top line, they are just being checked! That's what wrong wit them in the play offs.

  4. very simple. they have NO HEART OR DRIVE. they got the bag and have checked out. they like the accolades for scoring nice goals but if you call out their shit play they force the coach to walk it back. they care more about their clothes and likes on instagram. why would they put in the effort when they already got he bag.

  5. The Canadian media and every talking "mush" head are so desperate for a Canadian cup , you picked the Leafs to run thru the season and win the Cup in three games. No pressure there!

  6. Which is why they should be signing production contracts, with a base of $5 million to start and for every point they put on the board, they get rewarded, with more dollars per goal and assist, more money for offence and defensive plays, more money for powerplay points and penalty kills!!!

With deductions for costing goals, penalties and team loses, you will see these players starting to play, as if their lives are on the line!!!

That way everyone has a chance to make more money, ever time they step onto the ice and more money for the goalies making the saves and winning the games!!!

Then the management will see who is earning their money and who is costing them more money, then they are worth!!!

Lets face it, the blue collar workers gets more pay for overtime, bonuses if they save the company money or get FIRED!!!

This would also help the team, with these overloaded contracts, for lack lustre play on the ice and show who are playing or not, while helping to manage the salary cap!!!

  7. These players have to stop having SEX the night before a game, save it for after the games and stop jerking off, in the shower or bending over for the soap, prior to the game!!!

SEX KILLS your knees and they are being paid to play hockey, not wasting time on the bench waiting, for someone else to save them, for their poor play!!!

  8. It looks like they wont' play for their coach anymore. Marner and Matthews are more of a liability than an asset. They are on for more goals than they score.

  9. Matthews and Marner never went well together. Mathews Hyman Nylander was the best top line the Leafs have had

  10. Maple Leafs: only team in the NHL with one head coach and 5,000 assistant coaches.

  11. Why should Matthews improve & become a successful playoff performer? He already gets paid for not doing it.

  12. You will have to dive a lot deeper than the first line to figure out what's wrong with the leafs. But Start at the main problem. Brendan Shanahan.

  13. .the overpay to Mathews and Marner believing..wrongly..on their ability to lead the Leafs to Lord Stanley has crippled the teams progress..Nylander having a huge year complicates the teams ability to keep him under the current cap structure..losing ensues..
