Nhl highlights today 2023 – Tampa bay lightning vs toronto maple leafs was Grade A entertainment, and an early contender for game of the year. Leafs lightning is always fun, so I shouldn’t be surprised. Auston matthews goal and celebrations were awesome, the Ilya samsonov saga, matthews knies mitch marner matthews combo’s magic last night all made for such a great hockey game. This is why I love Nhl hockey . Lightning vs maple leafs highlights were a joy to watch even after watching the actual game, but this aspect stood out the most. Goalie issue in Toronto, no kidding. If I hyperslept 80 yrs into the future, Leafs would still have goalie issues 😄
I agree leave Knies on the top line dor a while and see how it goes. He's keeping up at the moment.
I'm following the Leafs from France (and that's not easy) …at 1-4 I thought now it's time for the usual Leafs' come back vs the TBLightning
Problem here is, this comeback, is an outlier. You won't get bailed out like this on a nightly basis. Ya, they got it done this time, but 9/10 times, they won't.
This team has problems, that are going to ruin them in the long run, and Samsonov, is not the heart of that problem.
The golden knights just won a cup with a bunch of throw in goalies because they have the best defense in the league. Its not a goaltender problem. Its a DEFENSIVE depth problem.
They need to play wonder wall after some big saves that’d be epic
Sadly Leafs games are a business thing because nobody can afford the seats. We all need an excuse to get out when the winter rolls around and business folks are no different.
We need at least two more NHL teams in Toronto (there were no empty seats when we had 1 million people and we now have 7 million).
Knies is a gem. He needs to be kept and protected. I believe that if he wasn't injured and body slammed by the panthers the leafs would have had a real chance going further in the play offs last year. Toronto seriously needs someone to protect their goal scorers. Maybe call up Max's father and see if his father wants to come out of retirement.
How do you "go get some help"?? In net? Be specific, are you saying get rid of Sami? Who on earth do you get that is an upgrade for <$3M ? They already have Martin Jones who passed waivers as a 3G.
The help they need is trading Klingberg and/or McCabe for space to get someone in Calgary
As much as I like JT, I believe that Matthews should he wearing the C patch on his jersey.
I made this statement years ago and I'll make it again now: Matthews should be the captain of this club, not Tavares. With all due respect to Johnny, it wasn't the right decision making him captain of the club. He doesn't play with enough emotion, he's not infectious, and he's not willing to put himself at risk of personal harm for his teammates. Sure, Matthews doesn't fight, but I don't think anyone expects him to. We expect him to get excited, to put the team on his back, and to infect everyone on the team (and in attendance) to BELIEVE in something. This has ALWAYS, and I repeat, ALWAYS been lacking with Tavares. I know it's got a lot to do with differing personalities and temperaments, and I can't fairly be critical of Tavares' leadership ability behind-the-scenes, but I say it's got to be Matthews.

No question the Leafs D was bad, but it wasn't so much that Samsonov got beat, it was how he was getting beat. He wasn't square, wasn't set, wasn't reacting, and just looked completely unprepared. Twice now against TB he's looked like a beer league goalie playing in the NHL. He's given up 7 goals on 17 shots in those 2 games… His lack of confidence is showing in how the defense plays in front of him. They don't expect him to make the saves, easy or tough. Meanwhile Woll goes in, and I don't think I've seen him give up a softie yet, so the team while still piss poor defensively, plays better in front of him.

I still have faith in sammy finding his way, also woll already looks calm and settled. I dont like the idea if trading for a goalie because who out there that we can afford is a better backup option than sammy

This was pure silliness that just led the Toronto Maples Leafs to piss down their leg a couple nights later vs the Ottawa Senators. Imagine trying to win a Stanley Cup year after year after year after year with weak goaltending and a piss poor defensive unit. Its never gonna happen like that for the Leafs but dang it if they dont keep trying.
