Red Wings Sign Patrick Kane: Instant Analysis



Patrick Kane is no longer a free agent after signing a one-year deal with the Red Wings. Detroit beat out multiple suitors in the Kane sweepstakes with the Maple Leafs, Sabres, Rangers and Panthers reportedly among the teams interested in the veteran winger.   1. Left them cap room for further moves? Great so perron,sprong,gost etc… will not only walk for nothing but we’ll end up moving Berggren etc.. and Picks for a first round exit. Brilliant

  2. buffalo is such boring mess with a boring home barn, they couldnt even get their hometown boy. the Pegulas need to splash some cash if they want to attract free agents.

  3. If I were Yzerman, I'd have offered Kane:

    $1 M guaranteed salary for rest of 23-24.

    $250k bonus for playing 50+ games

    $100k for every game winning goal

    $50k for every game winning assist

    $25k for every point above even +/-

    $250k for every round won in the playoffs

    $500k is he scores more than 50 points in regular season

    If he hits on all cylinders, the bonuses should come close to Detroit's remaining salary cap.

  4. Red Wings really didn't need him. They are scoring freely. PowerPlay is good. Signing a near 36 year old with dodgy hips seems a bit pointless. But we'll see.
