The New York Islanders are now dealing with illness in addition to injury. They placed defenseman Sebastian Aho on the IR and had two players miss practice due to an undisclosed illness, Cal Clutterbuck and Simon Holmstrom.
On the good side of things, Matt Martin returned to practice Monday but his status for tonight’s game in New Jersey is still uncertain. Mike Reilly also made his Isles practice debut.

Hey louzer with two forwards out how about giving ishkatov or maggio a shot? C'mon man they plus dufour have scoring ability. Putting 10, gauthier, fasching aint gonna move the needle offensively on 13/14 line. Get a fkn scorer for that line louzer. The team had just started to get it together and all this happens. Yoda built a marginal team with no depth. We could be out of it before the year ends. Keep your fingers crossed.
Yeah, here we go. Just like two years ago a mysterious sickness will take 70% of the roster, all of their defenseman, and the NHL will force them to play the games. When the "sickness" reaches MSG the league will halt the season for two weeks to allow their precious original 6 teams to recover.
Matt Martin is coming back! No worries. Just another over-thirty slow forward who fits right in with Cliutter, Lee, Palmz, and every other overpaid/long-term OLD forward on this roster. There is a core of younger players (Horvat, Barzal, Pelech (When healthy) Pulock, Dobson, and Sorokin are hindered by the bad long-term contracts I've mentioned (Pagaeu can be added).
I don't mind Engvall as he's young and fast but Varly has way too much term and even the contract is a bit much for a backup. Whalstrom would be better on the first line so let's hope they go with him. But they'll get with…Hudson Fasching. Shades of First Line Leo Komarov!
Only a coaching change can really help this team avoid blowing leads, inability to play 60 minutes, and taking dumb timely penalties. I hope this Pelech loss doesn't affect them like last January. In 2020 he was lost for the season. but… the bubble made it possible for him to come back and lead the team on the run. Yet the Isles's defense has been so pedestrian this season that I wonder if it will make as much of a difference adversely.
