   * I’m still a Vitek truther, but Schmid’s gotta get some more starts. Let VV take a breather and reassess himself. It’s not an indictment of him. I’m a Schmid truther too and think they can both find success with us

   * Defense still needs to button up BADLY. Vitek vs Schmid vs Helly vs Sorokin vs whoever doesn’t matter when we’re handing other teams goals

   * Encourage Smith’s physicality if he’s gonna keep getting minutes. Let him be a grinder. Maybe he just plays better with 2 linemates instead of 1, idk

   * The Devils are 4-1-0 when I go to a game this season.
   * Nico Hischier tying goal from both the Hughes brothers is fucking A R T.
   * The fact that we won IN REGULATION after not playing for like HALF the game. Sheesh. THANK FUCK. Those two whole points and no points for the Isles is important.
   * Curtis Lazar is one of our best acquisitions to date. I adore him.
   * sometimes we CAN outscore our problems.
   * not that we should ignore our ever present problems: not showing up for a full sixty minutes, goaltending, and defensive zone buffoonery.

    – Holtz’ skill has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the season and it’s fucking great to see.
    – McLeod is drastically underrated. Lazar is fucking good.
    – the Smith besmirchment ends here. His redemption tour starts two games ago and his name deserves respect after the last two games I won’t here anything different
    – Anders Lee is, and will continue to be, a bitch

    HOT TAKE TIME:
    Hear me out. Even if Dougie wasn’t injured and it was a complete healthy scratch, and we decided to move Smith from forward to defense, did anyone even fucking notice? I felt our defense played more solid in the 3rd then having a defensemen get into the rush and then sit at the corner of the blue line looking for a one timer, like Dougie typically does.

    At this rate, I’d consider trading him for a solid goaltender.

    I went to the cardiologist yesterday and told him I keep getting chest pains. He asked me what my day-to-day was and I told him my usual. I wake up, eat a dozen strips of bacon, two cups of black coffee, and a taylor ham-egg-and cheese sandwich. Then I make sure to sit in a dark room on my computer for the next twelve hours. After that, I told him, I eat three cheeseburgers and two large fries from McDonalds along with half a bag of chocolate. Then I sit down to watch the Devils play and I usually pound down a few dozen beers before falling asleep on my couch.

    His advice was to stop watching the Devils.

    Hope Dougie is alright but I feel like he’ll miss some time. He’s a net positive to this team, but I really feel like he’s a net negative to our defensive zone play. I want to take these next few games and focus on that part of the ice EXCLUSIVELY. Even if we sacrifice some offense, I’m not worried now that Jack and Nico are back – they will make plays naturally, and the PP still looks good. I want to see some 3-2 wins to prove we can do it, because when the playoffs come if you can’t defend you’re not winning anything.

    Good comeback, but then our offensive fire power has never been in doubt – Hughes and Hischier are both legit number one centres; Bratt, Meier and Toffoli are all legit top line players. But we really need to shore up at the back.

    According to [https://hockeystatcards.com/all](https://hockeystatcards.com/all) for goalies with 7+ games played, Vanecek is sitting at 48/53 for goals saved above expected/60. A good goalie will make this team a perennial contender, it needs to be top of Fitz’s to do list. Schmid should also be starting the next few games.

    If Hamilton is out for any period of time, I really hope we see Nemec get a call up.

    How good has Lazar been? Every good team has solid depth guys that contribute. What a great trade at the deadline last year that seemed like a “meh” move but has paid dividends this year already. That’s the kind of guy you need late in the season and during playoffs

    Everyone is blaming Vitek, but like Jack said, they were playing like garbage in front of him and giving the Islanders way too many chances to score. No goalie is going to stop EVERY goal, and when the opposing team keeps getting handed these easy goals because the defense isn’t doing their job, of course his save rate isn’t going to be great. Fix our defense, and then we can see if Vitek is really the problem.

Just bringing it here to point out that even if the puck doesn’t go in off of the Islanders skate, Holtz would have tapped it in.

    Also, that hustle from Mikey. God damn. Couple of first rounders who don’t need to be flashy to make an impact.

    Great game to be at, but these boys need to start blocking some shots and taking the heat off the tenders. Vitek let up at least one softy, but I shit you not, going into the 3rd period, shot blocks were 18-1 islanders. I visibly watched several devils “take up a lane” and pretend to get in front of the puck.

    To be 100% honest here, always sucks seeing players get hurt no matter the team especially ours, but Dougie has been playing like utter cow shit. Maybe what he really needed was some time off to recover and think then maybe when he comes back he’ll start heating up.

But that third period shows that when the team does the right things, plays the right way and puts the right effort in, they are every bit as good as advertised.
