It’s Showtime in Detroit! Red Wings Sign Patrick Kane to 1-Year Deal | Dylan Larkin Out vs Rangers

The Detroit Red Wings have signed Patrick Kane to a 1-year deal worth $2.75M. Coming off a major hip resurfacing surgery there a massive question marks regarding how much he can contribute on the ice, as no players have ever come back in a meaningful fashion from this surgery. BUT, if he CAN return he could be the push Detroit needs to get over the hump and into the playoffs. Either way, it is a low-risk potentially high-reward acquisition for the Detroit Red Wings. This also proves Detroit is now a premiere destination for big names and big talents once again. In other news, Dlyan Larkin is OUT (DTD) against the New York Rangers Wednesday. Holl is also questionable, Berggren has been recalled and Husso and Walman are IN. #LGRW

  1. Kane will have to pull off the near impossible – come back from a hip resurfacing and be effective as a player. We will see. I am perhaps more skeptical than most, however, if it works, what a fantastic signing.

  2. Patrick Kane would have been 2ND in scoring on the Red Wings last year. Yes the hip is an issue, but worst case scenario – LTIR! If he can even put up at a 50-60 point pace and setup debrincat on that compher line it is a massive net positive! I also imagine that signing a guy like Patrick Kane is such a morale boost in the locker room, the boys will be absolutely fired up to have one of the best american players on their team. All positives, zero risk – LOVE IT!

  3. Let’s look at the long term. What if Kane takes an interest in working with the young players in the system whether he produces or not. To me it’s a Scotty Bowman type move.

  4. Kane's greatest strenghts are elite IQ and vision, these are abilities that dont deteriorate. The only question is, can he play, physically. If he can play the results will be there ( 55-60 point pace at this stage in his career ) The alternative is he plays a handful of games and LTIR retires.
I just dont see a world where he is regularly in the lineup and not producing to a reasonable degree.
I think its pretty cut and dry on the two possible outcomes, and its really low risk.

  5. I really don't care about Patrick Kane's production on the ice as long as he brings an attitude to win to the locker room. With his experience as a player he could make a huge difference right off the bat and that is to help install that kind of an attitude to this team. That alone speaks volumes. I know it is pretty hard for you guys but you must trust the way Steve Yzerman is thinking here. He knows what it takes and I wouldn't be surprised if this season didn't work out for Kane due to his injury recovery if the Wings offer him a even better deal…become part of our coaching staff and our formula. If he produces that is great but if he doesn't you shouldn't hold it against either Patrick or Steve because they both know the formula for winning.

  6. You've missed the most important part of his surgery. He didn't use the same surgeon as the other 3 players did. Not all doctors are created equal. 🤔😎👀

  7. The biggest thing is…this move symbolizes that Stevie believes in the team and the players. The days of selling at the deadline are hopefully over.

  8. Lalonde utilizes Copp for his utility skills. So I don’t even think of Copp as an “offensive” player as much.

  9. Since I've only been following the NHL since 2019 and primarily only the Wings, I can't say much about Kane, but from what I hear and what you say, it's only positive. Even if he doesn't play well, he can still help younger players a lot I think.
Raymond , Berggren under his wings, there are worse players to learn from. 1 year doesn't hurt anyone either. Seems like LCA is seeing playoffs for the first time. LGRW

  10. Hopefully Kaner does well and has fun.
The other guys are having fun and playing well.

Plus he rehabbed like the other guys who had that surgery did not.
The fact that he’s willing to not be The Star of the team is helpful, less pressure here.

    Im pulling for him!

  11. Obviously we want all want Kane to succeed here. Even if he doesn't, this is a mental boost to the Wings. Yzerman has signaled to the team that we are exiting the rebuild… If Lalonde plays him right and he remains somewhat healthy I think this could be a success. I really like the 2nd line combo of DeBrincat, Compher, and Kane. Top line would be Larkin, Raymond and (Perron/Veleno/Rasmussen).

  12. Patrick Kane is a PRIME candidate to transition to coaching/scouting staff when his career is over because of his hockey mind. Getting our feet in the door on an opportunity like that is a big deal for the long-term.

  13. Kaner it’s time to retire. We brought him to NY and it was very disappointing. Granted leaving your team of 15+ years, several Cups, MVP, etc and arriving at MSG can be a bit scary. He needs to just head out to pasture and simply wait for his HOF induction.

  14. Did everyone else forget that Brad Marchand had hip surgery in in 2022? He seems to be playing fine. I get the concern, but everyone talks as though no players have come back from hip surgery.

  15. Never would’ve imagined this 10 years ago, but Kaner’s always been a favorite player to watch personally. I’m trying not to get too excited because we have to see how he plays post hip operation. But if this works out another big W for Stevie.

  16. Cab drivers in the Detroit area better make sure to have plenty of coins with them.

Kane is a douchebag, but if he can come back healthy he'll help on the ice and the only risk is to cab drivers
