Fire reardon !!!!! Nothing will change with the pp AS LONG AS HES RUNNING IT…
Why is it that every other goalie can stop the weird shots..but ares cant..???
Ok,even if they start getting more powerplays, they cant score..lets get rid of the coach who is teach for the powerplay..?
The reason we don't get power plays is because they don't attack the defenders. They have very little aggression with the puck except rust. They would rather pass then take on a d man.
Hey DK, how about graves being a giant turn over machine in terrible areas of the ice at terrible times.
0-20 pp, that's sounds like the Sudbury blueberry bulldogs type of numbers😅
This is not a playoff team. That's the bottom line and sad truth.
The penguins need a net front presence who can draw penalties. Idk who that is, but the pens need it bad.
Evgeni Malkin may not be a cereal diver like Tanev but I’ve seen him do it a time or 3.
It's not a coincidence this topic was generated from my post yesterday citing exactly this problem. However, I still think it's more about their lack of aggressiveness on the forecheck and quality of attack zone time and general puck possession tendencies (fighting and battling for the puck more) more than anything else. Are we really supposed to believe that all of a sudden the Penguins aren't selling penalties well enough to get calls? They were 2nd highest in drawing penalties last season with a couple bottom lines that couldn't light a fire if given matches and kerosene. Tanev wasn't with the team last season and they had no problem getting the calls. Same general team of stars for the past almost two decades and just suddenly they are not the type to dive anymore? Maybe they just don't give Senior Citizen's the benefit of the doubt anymore and figure they just fell down on their own accord. Was last season's team just a bunch of good divers with Kapanen, McGinn, Petry and Granlund? Funny, I don't remember them getting a lot of calls.
Age has caught up with the stars in being able to play aggressively enough to generate penalty calls. You know who has fewer PPO's than the Penguins? The Capitals, and it's why I don't think Ovechkin will ever catch Gretzky. PP goals are his bread and butter and if they can't get the Power Plays, then he won't be getting the goals.
You don’t have to dive to draw a penalty. Ron Francis would squeeze and grab the opponents stick with his arm to draw hooking penalties but your point is well taken.
There were some refs – back in the day – who were colorful characters. Now not so much.
Just a general rant: I sometimes check the DKPS game day feed if I'm forced to listen to the game because I can't watch. You know, just to get a side commentary other than what the more homercentric Penguins radio feed gives. Taylor is disappointing. I think I could get more insight and feedback from an AP feed. At least with Dejan doing it there's some opinion and color to make it interesting, and last season with Shirey was good and had more insightfulness and commentary as to what the general pulse and feel of the game was. Not trying to be rude, and I know she's knowledgeable and is a good reporter, but these games with Taylor's commentary are more stale than week-old bakery bread. A little more effort other than announcing the score and general stats would be appreciated. I mean, you're there watching the game, at least act more excited. Maybe just pretend it's a Capital's game. 😉
If ever you want to illustrate what interference is, that would be it. On game winning goals why isn't that reviewable. If your foot is over the line by half a cm…it's overturned… Why not this. Officials get paid well, this was costly. The only solice I take from it is that we should have taken care of business before OT.
Who cares if they draw them or not because they never score on them.
DK we keep talking about needing a player to fill a Hornqvist-like role on the power play to occupy space near the crease and fight for rebounds. Is Jeff Carter a viable candidate for this role, not to mention the opening face-off of the power play ?
They missed 3 for us n called 2 on us directly after and the 2 latter were arguably softer than the misses but at least even. That cant happen long or it actually is a problem.
I'm going to bring this up again. Something is up with Malkin. Is he hurt, did the coaches tell him to stop hisno look passes through the neutral zone, is he not happy with his line? Yes he scored last night but his line also got scored on twice. His plus/minus in the last 6 games is -1. Where is the fire he's brought for years?
i cant understand why Reirdan still has a job
What makes the lack of power play situation even weirder is that the opposition must be less reluctant to do things that are penalties because they dont fear the Pens when the Pens get power plays because they cant score on them..Opposition also isnt worried that there is a hard hitting player around them out there…I was encouraged by Ludvig's play last night…he will certainly draw attention from other teams and that might affect how other teams play to some degree..We dont want a Trouba or Wilson out there playing dirty, but we do need a Ludvig or two out there. The Pens (like the Steelers) are a mystery team so far this season
Also, could it be that the Pens arent drawing the penalties because they are no longer real fast so the opposition does not have to slow them down by taking penalties which are obvious? Being a half step slow in this league is enough to make a big difference as athletic and competitive the NHL is
They're not hard to play against. Sullivan's got to go.
