The good and the bad..

OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the game last night between the Montréal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Habs won this game by a score of 4-2, and are headed back home to play against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. Cole Caufield, Alex Newhook, Mario Armia and Goose scored the goals for the Canadiens, while Patrick Laine and Chinakov scored for the Jackets!

  1. Cole is playing excellent defensively actually. Great on forecheck and dominating puck battles with quickness and determination. Even throwing some body around. He is a 200 foot player

  2. The good news is that they are beating the teams they should beat. That's key in building a playoff team. Obviously we are not on the level of LA, Boston, or LV but that will come.

Not fast enough for fans but it will be worth it.

  3. A trip like this usually brings the guys together. I don't expect tonight's game to go well, but I do expect better play in the future.

  4. Why couldnt it have been Anderson instead of Dach 😢 stupid Armia will obviously disappear after this, hopefully we get a deal done with Edmonton

  5. Great trip, and the loss to L.A was to be expected. They were the 2nd toughest opponent Habs have faced so far this year. We are who we are, a middle of the pack rebuilding team. If not for the injuries we could be higher in the standings but another top 5 or 6 pick would do nice on the rebuild long term.

  6. Just a thought and maybe one worth examining. We are 3 years into a rebuild now and one question I haven't seen answered yet is what kind of team they are trying to build. They aren't a checking team. They aren't a skating team and they aren't a run and gun team. They have Matheson skating around the ice like he wants to be Bobby Orr and sad news is he isn't. Not by a long shot and the rookie d men have to pick up his slack. When he stayed at home and fired bullets at the net the Habs were successful, but when he is doing his around the rink tours they're a mess. If this is what Marty is teaching he needs to be replaced before he does any more damage to this young team. Gallagher is flying everywhere just trying to plug the holes and it takes him out of heading up scoring chances. Last night line one on the bench and no one was talking to one another. This team can't be this rudderless for much longer. There is an inkling of a core but nothing holding it together. Habs fans aren't like fans of other canadian teams. We expect results and now it should be sooner rather than later now as we are 3 years in. Just think that the question should be asked and probably a good idea for a video. What kind of a team are the Habs trying to build into?

  7. This team is much better than people think. I would hate to see Monty traded to only light it up for another team.
Get rid of the deadweight with high salaries first then go from there if needed!

  8. Problem solved , $5M men exchanged, Cambell for Anderson plus Montambeau and Barron to solve Edmonton's defensive problem for Drysytal. Habs have lotsa' D promise and a goalie excess it's all in the mix!

  9. Slaf shows good awareness. Impressed with his passing and playmaking. Worth the patience while rebuilding.

  10. After that performance, the Oilers are going to insist that Mario Armia is part of a package with Montenbault

  11. Good comeback for the boys and Slafkovsky just gets better and better each game. Could be and ugly one tonight . Should keep Strubble in for a bit of grit in case Matthew Upchuck and the goons get testy ! Another great post Matt ! GHG

  12. I love your podcasts, excellent everything and awesome monikers and sense of humour re the Habs. But….could you lay off of Armia, please because he's an honestly quiet nice guy and I'm sure he already gets that we aren't impressed with him. Give it to the guys with the solid egoes who don't give a s, but please leave Joel alone because though people often say he doesn't try, I think he's tried a lot since they brought him back from Laval. Be nice? Pleasssssse? Make fun of Galley; he can take it lol.

  13. caufield cheats too much and thinks too much aboutb offense. when you score 40+ its fine you can deal with a player like him but as of now he still has to work on his 200 foot game just like Suzuki also does

  14. I'll say it again….our bundle of smurf needs yet to show us that he can deke a goaltender.
That skill is a must for a playoff team down the road!

  15. I am definitely not a Cole hater matter of fact I predicted we would draft him and we did we need a goal scorer but make no mistake Cole is a one dimensional player. What Cole did coughing it up in our own end is common place for the habs in general. As you can see in that highlight Anderson had his head down something I eluded to all year he does not look where his shot is going he just shovels pucks at the net and hopes to get lucky.I love merzlikins imo he is one of the best goalies in the league but his team is bad and they are missing at least one of the D they picked up this year which was a blaring weakness of the team.
That Laine goal was sad and again something I have mentioned alot we are really bad along the boards in puck battles.Monahan lost it as he was not moving his legs enough but the worst part is that Laine skated EASILY past both defense Barron was one of them and got a clear cut breakaway so we had 3 habs there and all 3 were left in the dust by Laine.
This is why I have mentioned TIME will not make this team better we will never be better on the boards unless we get an overhaul of players and to be outskated past 3 players is again not going to get better over time. Our best period was the second and yet we only came away 2-2 we really have only Cole as a gifted scorer.

  16. Too funny; it would have been fun to have seen a meme of the “three wise men” from Edmonton but love the creatives!

  17. That Mario guy sure comes to play every time he gets called up. I think the Habs should send him down and call him up once a week…

  18. Growing up in Montreal, the fanbase is definitely passionate and cares deeply about the team. But i have to be honest, we are, without a doubt, the biggest mouth breathing morons (me included) when it comes to the only MAJOR sports franchise in the city.

At this point, i think it would serve the team better, if we all stopped paying attention TO THE DEGREE that we are. LET THE EXPERTS who we pay A TON OF CASH, do their jobs. Let the boys play, WE ARE IN A REBUILD. I REPEAT, WE ARE IN A REBUILD, NO ITS NOT OVER. (also, FYI, rebuilds dont always work!, so keep it in the back of your mind, we may never win for another ten years+)

The way the media comes down on players (especially new, or rookie players), increases the pressure by an insane amount.
The whole failure of the team becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

    That being said,

hope they do better next year, but we have to be patient. extremely patient.

  19. Mario Armia wakes up and runs to you Tube to watch the Latest Junkie Saga about his being the best young Habs prospect!!!

    Laval helps him…
