GAME RECAP: Penguins at Lightning (11.30.23) | Jarry Gets Goalie Goal

The Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Tampa, FL to play the Lightning for their second game of this road trip. This match-up was Drew O’Connor’s 100th NHL game, all of which have been played with the Penguins. Tampa wasted no time pushing the pace of the game early on, registering 17 SOG in the 1st. Able to convert on 2 of those shots, the Lightning had a 2-0 lead at the end of the 1st period. The Penguins regrouped and started playing a faster game to match the Lightning in the 2nd. Halfway through, Jake Guentzel chipped an area pass for Sidney Crosby to skate onto with speed. Able to get behind the defense by a step, Crosby shot over the goaltender’s shoulder and into the back of the net. With only 30 seconds left on the clock, Kris Letang passed the puck up the ice to Evgeni Malkin at the far blue line. Showing patience, Malkin hit the brakes to throw the timing of the Tamp defense off and put a pass between their legs to O’Connor on the backdoor. Heading into the 3rd tied, Jeff Carter got his first goal of the season with a return pass from Marcus Pettersson. The Penguins held on to this lead late into the 3rd. Tampa pulled the goalie for the extra attacker and dumped the puck into the zone. Tristan Jarry collected the puck and shot it down the full length of the ice at the empty net to get the first goalie goal in Penguins history. The Penguins won 4-2.

  1. Comeback kids, hey. Good for Cap., DOC, Carter- and Jarry's been wanting that AHL-NHL goal combo for ages.

  2. Pens D + Jarry carried the day. PP is still hot, flaming, garbage (Now down to 11.9%). At 20% (league average), that's 5 more goals on the year. Pens have a LOT of ground to make up in the standings.

  3. Still can’t score on power play but we will take it. We have to start scoring on power plays or we will never make the playoffs.
