  1. Looks like somebody else is about to exit the goalie carousel.

I think Montembeault has earned this based on his play thus far. Plus, I’m sure management is happy to have at least one French Canadian player signed medium term.

Good signing all around! Terms solid as is the AAV. Big congrats Monty!

Monty has honestly been awesome since the waiver pickup, good signing!!!

  4. RyanWalts

Totally reasonable, very happy with this one. He’s earned it with his play.

    Like the contract.

3 years is a good length for Montembeault, and being in the range, but still less than Allen feels right.

The length and AAV is low enough that even if he regresses, the contract shouldn’t be much of an issue on the books.

Now that they’ve committed to Montembeault, the next obvious question is what to do with Primeau/Allen, as having a trio of goalies doesn’t make much sense with Montembeault no longer on the trade block.

    where the snacks at tho?

  7. Good stuff. Hopefully the habs fans on twitter can shut up about trading him.

  8. ticktock_heart

YES! congrats to monty, good signing from hughes, and a sigh of relief from me, personally. 💗

No issues with this at all. Easy cap hit to absorb if they decide to go a different route on the starter for some reason. Now they need to figure out the back up situation and stop carrying three goalies.

Well deserved and very reasonable I’d say. Win for the team and for him. I guess one of the other ‘minders is getting off Kent Hughes’ Wild Ride soon.

  11. OMG I’m actually so happy about this news. I love Monty 🥹

Still think hes a 1B type of goalie, but 3 mill during a rebuild is peanuts. He’ll be 30+ once the rebuild and this deal are ending and we can move on from him then.

  13. Woullie_26

That’s a W for him but I’m not sure how that fits the team plan for the future.

He’s gonna be due for another contract once we’re competitive and also Fowler will mostly take over as Goalie 1.

    Is he a place holder?

Also there isn’t any protections so he can be traded at any time

Holy shit that’s such a good contract. When you look at Allen’s contract (so on the same team), he’s less paid and younger. Plus next season his cap hit is 30th in the league (behind Georgiev, what a steal), and there’s no way 29 goalies are better than him

  15. Sam Montembault is a Montreal Canadien! ![img](emote|t5_2r10m|16352)![img](emote|t5_2r10m|16352)![img](emote|t5_2r10m|16352)

Can’t believe we got him on waivers, what an amazing story

  17. TamedDawn

Monty’s earned it, steadily improving every year

  18. Great contract. Think we got a bit of a hometown discount here, there’s a lot of goalies that are noticeably inferior to Monty that are making a lot more money. You just love to see it.

  19. Love to see it, Montembault had to get it out the mud to get this contract, good on him and good on the org rewarding him with one.

  20. Le8ronJames

AMAZING contract. If he’s really a #1 that’s awesome and if he ends up a #2 it’s not too crazy.

I guess Allen is gone now.

  21. dangeezer

Now we need to move Allen. Or buying him out after in the off season.
