  1. Why in the world is Mittelstadt on left side of PP as left shot? The way he stands he has zero opportunity to actually shoot, not that he would ever shoot but this coaching is terrible.

  2. Buffalo has won against Carolina only 2 times in 17 games, they will be 80% against us on faceoffs and have us for roast chicken dinner

  3. No complaints Wayne? Our defense was shit last night. And the physical game was ziltch. Costly giveaways, nobody standing up St. Louis at the blue line, nobody clearing the front of the net, nobody winning board battle. Just pathetic.

  4. The Eastern conference, while tight, is very plainly dividing up between the haves and have-nots…with Buffalo 2nd amongst the latter. Boston, Florida, Toronto, and Detroit are battling it out for playoff spots at 2, 3, 5, and 6 in the conference, while the also rans are jockeying for draft lottery position. Tampa, Buffalo, Montreal, and Ottawa are 12, 13, 14, and 15 in the conference sorted by point percentage. Don't kid yourself into believing the "it's early" crap…it's December. 26.8% of the Sabre's games have been played. They're on pace for 78.4 points. Sure as the weight of expectations declines, the guys will dress up the season a bit by climbing over a few overachievers, but all it will do at the end of the day is give the team lower quality draft picks.

The current WC2 team by point % is the NJ Devils…who are on pace for 89.9 points. That's not likely to be enough as teams continue to address areas of need. Even so, to even reach 90 points the Sabres would have to go .576 the rest of the way to match that performance. The Buffalo Sabres have spent exactly one day above .500 this season…November 10 when they were briefly .536 following a win over the Leafs, an OT loss to the Canes, and a win over the struggling Wild. That's the high water mark after 23 games…five of six points in a three game stretch. The guys haven't won three in a row even once this season.

  5. Stick with UPL, why not, there is No plan anyways. Slow starts and bad GT that's a losing combo. Last time we made the playoffs was the last time we had consistent GT. UPL will prolly play great next game, but we won't score then and the beat goes on. Personally I'm so sick of moral victories and this team going Nowhere fast. Without any points it's just the same old thing of Not progressing in the league. Hard to get excited over that ! On to the next…

  6. The fact that the sabres have yet to win Back to Back games this season blows my mind…. Its extremely frustrating.

  7. At 11 mins in the 2nd ,I remember thinking wow the Blues look like the Sabres ha ha,Dahlin needs that Puck to stay on his stick,to many errors by him 4 what he is ,Nice to see 19 get his due

  8. Granato shouldve replaced UPL when it was 3-0 and another 10 or less Hits a game! If Granato is sticking with 12 forwards and 6 D then Owen Power needs to sit the next game as he is a turnover machine, gets caught out of position too many times and he is too soft!
Dont mean to sound like a broken record but Marty Wilford the Sabres D coach needs to go . Shouldve been reolace in the summer by Rochester coach Mike Weber who Adams let go to St louis!

  9. Letā€™s do this, and the fans of every team regardless of sports can do this; Suppose, we create three columns in a spreadsheet, COL_1 is for all the areas the sports team needs improvement (the outcome of this column will be the combination of COL_1 & COL_3), COL_2 is for all the areas where team is consistent game after game and doing at the very least good (NOT Average but good, hits, plus/minus, Powerplay, PK, shorties, goal-tending etc.), COL_3 is for game after game what the team is doing Average or below average, this includes tangibles (elements you can see empirically) as well as intangibles (Body language, how players & coaches answer after each games regardless of the result, head-coachā€™s approach toward the players, meaning force them to play to their strength and take them out from the areas where theyā€™re NOT at least good, leadership, accountability, locker room chemistry, sense of urgency (today could just be my last time on the ice sense of urgency) playing full 60 minutes game-after-game, you canā€™t measure these empirically), then we compare all 32 teams on these criteria, the teams that emerge at the end are the teams who concentrate on ā€œIntangiblesā€ like FL-Panthers last year taking care of business against the best team in NHL Bruins. Now the Bruins coach got fired and went to the Knights, installed all these intangibles in the team and won the cup. Until and unless Sabres coaches and players donā€™t take care of the above mentioned intangibles, nothing is going to happen, itā€™ll be just another day in the office until you find another place to work or youā€™re out of work. Secondly, if the fans make excuses for the teamā€™s poor performance like ā€œthey were or he was due for a bad gameā€, imagine what kind of mentality the players have for each other. It is a defeated mind group mentality.

  10. UPL made a miraculous save in the opening shift, then proceeded to not play the rest of the game… just one of those games. Onto the next one. And you have to go back to UPL in Carolina. You have to see how he's going to bounce back from this loss. Putting in Comrie would just destroy whatever confidence UPL had gained this season. And since it's a back-to-back coming up, Comrie would start the game against Nashville.

  11. We will be a very good team if we can solidify the defense and goaltending . Offense was stellar minus the opportunities we didnā€™t finish on.

  12. On to Carolina. Hoping we stay at .500 until we get Tage and Quinn back. Our goaltending is what it is. It was too soon to expect Levi to come in and be the answer in net. Sabres are still finding their identity as a group. D has got to be more consistent.

  13. So next year this team will look the same except Mittelsstadt will be making 7 million, Power 8.3 million, Dahlin 11 million, UPL is starting goalie so he will get 5 million, Ollofsson will walkā€¦this team probably will never be good, they have a team filled with guys who are always hurt so even if we make the playoffs half the team wonā€™t be able to play due to injury like in 2005 when our GM Darcy picked up zero backup players for the best chance we ever had to win a cup and then we had 5 starters all hurt. If Iā€™m the GM tomorrow what I do is trade for a very good or great starting goalie who doesnā€™t get hurt a lot, make some bold trades for two way forwards who have grit and hardly get hurt, we canā€™t just keep going like this, saying ā€œoh better luck next year our guys just have bad luck with injuriesā€.

The top line with Mittelstadt or Tage is always scored on, we need one really good two way winger who can play a top 6 role, Peterka who is built like a tank should play Matthewā€™s and Marner minutes(22-23), let him do his thing while all the other guys who get hurt every other week can put ice packs on and get foot rubs from instagram models.

This team is soft as mink fur, no wonder they donā€™t hit, if they did they would be hurt every other game.

This thought about how we canā€™t move on from certain guys because it will hurt their feelings needs to stop. Make a trade for Hanafin or Pecse, quit screwing around with guys who canā€™t play defense. Move on from Girg, Jost, Okposo, boo hoo, they will cry big deal, you want to win a cup or be nice guys?

  14. No more excuses. UPL is not the answer. Make a change in net. Get a face off man. No nights off your a professional hockey player. You want nights off go play in Europe. Changes need to be made. Or no playoffs this year. I'm sorry that's the way I feel.

  15. I am surprised Wayne would be satisfied on this effort and blame goaltending. Four of their goals were basically tap ins. Wayne wants the goalie to make a stop on 2 on 0? WE still have not found our identity. The Sabres want to run and gun but last night forget on to cover in the D zone. They don't have the guys that know how to finish, either. Casey missed a tap in goal. Hard to watch but overall entertaining game for the league. We have a 20% chance of making the playoffs and percentage is going down quickly.
