  1. Technically and barely its a legal play and there are several other incidents with the exact same ruling so there is precedent. Avs fans learned against Jonathan Toews and the Blackhawks several seasons ago

  2. I still don't get how that's onside besides a dumb technicality, and I'm an Avalanche fan. I know what the rule says, which is why Makar does this occasionally, yes but I do not like this version of the rule. He's done a couple things where his IQ is just better than other players, but this is the first one that the entire NHL got to see. Seriously ask Avs commentator Peter McNabb about Makar making genius level plays because of technicalities.

    Excellent breakdown btw.

  3. I love it all the sudden delayed offsides shouldn't be a thing! The spirit of the rule is to not giving teams an unfair advantage, not disallow goals because a guy that has no effect on the play in an inch inside the blue line.

  4. Players are going to exploit this from now on. This opens a whole bag of worms and as a fan/viewer I like it. Can't wait to see all the way the players will be clearly offside yet still onside.

  5. Rule 83.3 Delayed Off-side

If, during the course of the delayed off-side, any member of the attacking team touches the puck, attempts to gain possession of a loose puck, forces the defending puck carrier further back into his own zone, or who is about to make physical contact with the defending puck carrier, the Linesman shall stop play for the off-side violation.

    No Goal

*Note: The rules says nothing about having "complete control or possession"

  6. "nO fAiR cAlLiNg ThInGs TeChNiCaLly AcCoRdInG tO tHe RuLeBoOk. YoUrE sUpPoSeD tO cAlL tHeM aCcOrDiNg To HoW i FeEl"

  7. So if someone were to come up and level Makar in the moment where he wasn’t technically touching the puck would it be interference?

  8. Okay… Now explain me this. A player that enter in the zone first with POSSESSION of the puck because he pass it BETWEEN his leg is not a offside because HE HAVE POSSESSION. Why in this case he's not in possession but in that other case that i mention it was a possession?

  9. Makar carries the puck in offside. It doesn't have to be glued to the guys stick-its not lacrosse. NHL linesman continue to prove they are practically useless, unless you consider refusing to drop the puck until they toss out at least one player entertainment. Also how about the bozo linesman in the TAM/NYR game tonight rolling around on the ice with the players at the end of the game trying to stop a fight. MVL! MVL!

  10. Yeah, no, he had control the whole time AND possession. Just because he's not touching the puck for a tenth of a second is ridiculous…

  11. So we are saying we now live in a world where a player never needs to wait for a player to tag up ever again?

  12. And we now live in a world where when you stickhandle the following sequences occur? Possession – No Possesion – Possession – No Possession?

  13. The idea that a puck has to be in physical contact with the stick to establish "possession" is absurd. The nature of stickhandling is that the puck is not always in contact with the stick. The puck is clearly under Makar's control, even if it's a few centimeters away from the stick as it crosses the line.

    It's just a bad call.

  14. The rule clearly states possession. You really have to turn your head in a knot to claim Makar did not have it.

  15. First, can we acknowledge the amazing eye sight of the NHL linesman!?! He was able to see the entire play from 60' away with Landeskog in front of Makar THEN paid attention to the puck position relatively to Makar's stick AND at the same time watching Nichushkin tagging up? AMAZING! Neo from the Matrix would say "whoa".

  16. If this isnt offside by some insane interpretation of the rules, then the rules need to change. To anyone with a working brain this is offside. Its interesting to see the great lengths the nhl is going to gaslight everyone and pretend they made the right call though

  17. Possession is not relevant. Touching the puck is. Possession is only relevant when putting yourself offside. Obviously it is in the spirit of the offside rule, clear as day. No one touched the puck or effected an opponent in any way before everyone was on side. The spirit of the rule doesn't care at all that people's brains broke from their own assumptions and the need for a closer look and different angles, analysts brought up possession for absolutely no reason, and suddenly people no longer understand offsides is in a matter of hours. But homers that want contraversy are gonna be homers that want contraversy.

  18. Moving the puck from backhand to forehand is called stickhandling, which is what you do when you have complete possession and control. Makar carried the puck into the zone and the delayed offside rule should never never have been involved. The misapplication of the rule — and the fact that Edmonton was penalized for its totally justified appeal — caused a two-goal swing and decided the eventual outcome of a very important game. Shame on the NHL

  19. Exactly. if you seen it before you know thats a thing. The same thing happened to the Avs years ago when Richard Panik didnt have possession and the goal counted. I learned the offside rule that night.

  20. What a crock!! Even if you shoot the puck in 10 ft. from the blue line and you're man is already in, it's still offside, never had control. Offside all day!!!!
