  1. Laviolet's system works here because they have all the right players. They dont need to go out there to do a trade.

  2. As a WINGS fan I have this upcoming game vs the Rangers Circled as a "true test" game to see if the Wing are on the UPs I give the NYR that much respect right now the NYR defense has be impressive in these 9 games

  3. Really like the system Laviolette has in the place now. I think it really shows the most with how panarin is playing now, way more aggressive, decisive, shooting more and making smart puck decisions. The panarin-chytil-lafreniere is very dynamic and they all read off each other very well.

  4. Thank You Shannon! Whether or not you believe in curses, much respect as you build your analyses from the bottom-up with tangible data, statistics and facts.

  5. Oh they are absolutely for real,I mean they are just 1 year removed from a conference final appearance and they've only upgraded since.

  6. 5 on 5 scoring was the same issue last season. I hope the coaching staff works on that at practice along with breakaways. No way you should miss the net completely on a breakaway scoring chance. LET'S GO RANGERS

  7. Great video. Feeling good about this team. Wheeler still needs to kick in and the third line needs to produce a little but when your 3rd amd 4th line are shutting teams down you can rely more on the special teams. Feeling good to start the season.

  8. Though it may not show in the stats, I do feel like both Kakko and Laf provide a lot to the first and second line of this team. Iā€™m sure their numbers will naturally follow.

  9. In answer to Shannon's question: It is too early to tell.

I would not have put Lafreniere in the "Despite" column. He's been sharp. Also, a couple of setups from him should have been converted or were taken back. Rightly, He'd have about 4 assists now; Chytil must have bad dreams about missing one puck LaF served him on a platter. Lafreniere is scoring from in front of the net on tips and has excellent puck sense; He is learning from Kreider. I think LaF will get 30-35 this year and is blossoming. I really dislike fans who are impatient with Lafreniere. The kid had 19 goals Last year with virtually no playoff time.

Also, Shannon failed to mention Fox, who can still make errors defesively, but always seems to come up with huge goals and assists.

  10. I don't think it takes much analysis to see the Rangers are a deep talented team. It's all just what happens in the playoffs and how much they can avoid injuries. There's not a roster spot that they would really replace anyone. If they sure up the penalty kill there's no team they can't beat period.

One thing … This idea that Gallant wasn't superb is absurd. Both coaches are good.

Power play merchants…. part of hockey …a huge part of hockey is drawing penalties. Penalties come from forcing teams to take them. I assure you any team can be even 5 on 5 but score on pps and win way more than other teams

  11. Thanks Shannon, what I like about NYR so far is that they are completely buying into the team structure and fixing their flaws from last year, face-offs are MUCH improved, 2nd periods are great, giving up no odd-man rushes on defense, largely owning the neutral zone and playing a responsible 200' game with less turnovers.

Certainly encouraging, and like you said if they can get better 5 on 5 and Bottom 6 production while maintaining the defense-first responsibilities and staying healthy, they could be poised for a strong run.

  12. Hereā€™s my predictions

    Canes: W 2-1
    Minnesota: SO L 5-4
    Red Wings: W 5-3
    Minnesota: W 4-1
