Gareth Southgate & Roy Keane Look Back At Their Clash Over Keane’s Stamp | ITV Football
In 1995 Roy Keane’s infamous stamp on Gareth Southgate occurred after the now-England manager’s wreckless challenge. Fast forward to fifteen years later, what do the pair have to say about it?
Have to say I never felt like Keane was dirty, he’d put in hard challenges but he was clever with them – they always looked like they were timed well and not liable to cause serious injury. I’m sure everyone will point at Haaland but even that when you look at it the guys in the air – if he wanted to cause damage he could have easily gone him when he had his leg planted.
The useless donk Southgate mis controlled the ball, got embarrassed and lunged two footed. He got what he deserved.Useless player and dull useless manager.
Keane going for the flying kick he did on Haaland on Southgate, who then retaliates by flying in on Keane's ankle, only for Keane to then try to stomp Southgate in the nuts. Twice. Absolute quality.
You’ve got to say the ref handled this with class. He completely defused the situation and created space for himself by dismissing all the players crowding him. He let his assistants deal with any side issues. He stayed laser focused on what the foul play was and heard no opinions of the players. He made all the right calls cards wise and did it all in a completely calm way. And at the end, nobody had any complaints and the game went on.
A hard man can take a tackle and give it back later in the game. Cowards stand on players lying on the floor. Yet another case of Keane being a shithouse. Vinnie Jones put poor tackles in on Keane with zero response.

Awful challenge!!!! Do it again! And again and again
Keano not on Ray Houghton’s Christmas card list either clearly… did anyone in the Ireland team like him?
“Touch judge” John must have thought he was still commentating for Yorkshire on Scrumdown!

Of course its a red card. Why the need to think about.
looking back in those era, Keane wasn't even the hardest man in the United squad
Southgate out he sucks
Think it needs to be reviewed by VAR.
Southgate should of got banned for that challenge. Keane was just stepping out of the way.. 😂
Name of the Commentator?

He finally said sorry 😅😅😅
It's a good job Southgate hasn't got any balls , otherwise he could have been in trouble .
Good ol days lads
Keane, like Vinnie Jones, a terrible footballer had to compensate for his lack of quality with thuggery. Wouldn't make it in the modern game.
As an irishman im convinced there will never be a love story as pure as keane and irwin
nowadays you cant even stamp on anyone
After all, he apologized.
Obviously Keane didn't like being tackled hard.
The little “sarry gareth at the end”😂😂😂
Cork knacker
southgate was a coward as a player and an even bigger one as a manager, keano had the right idea for sure
Aaaand just like that I instantly once-again savour not having to watch Adrian Chiles presenting any football coverage whatsoever.
Southgate should have been arrested for that.

Roy Keane is like the FA, they walk all over Southgate! 😅
Anything funnier than footballers "fighting"???
Is é Keane an fear, bhí an mhaitheas aige leithscéal a ghabháil
When football was football and it is nice to see these ex players having fun together. The war is long over.
If anyone slide tackle like SOUTHGATE today, that’s definitely a RED
Roy Says Sorry – thats it

I'm not surprised at all.
