We’re going to find out tonight why you concentrate your best talent on a top line. Synergy (playmaking+finishing) IOW no weak links in the chain that kills a play, simplifying maximum ice time for good players, complicating opposition defensive tactics in not allowing focus on one key player.
The big down side is on weak teams, the rest of the lines will be ineffective, but spreading the meager remaining talent around the rest of the lines is all you can do, and hope that they can hold the fort.
This is nothing new of course, and coaches have done this forever. St Louis has been hedging his bets a bit too much for my taste so I’m hoping for a big night.
