Quarter of the way into the season and Wayneās in a flannel. This is the official white flag being waved for this season.
I said it after the first 10 games. The 2 main problems:
1) Unwillingness to attack the net or slot in the o-zone. Weāre stuck on the perimeter passing all night. Weāre very easy to defend.
2) Unwillingness to defend or clear traffic in front of our net. Nashville showed us exactly how to do this all night long. Our problem isnāt so much goaltending as it is defending in front of the net. In the St. Louis game you canāt expect UPL or any goalie to be superhuman and stop the highest quality shots right in front of our net. Every team knows now: when you play the Sabres just go to the net. Itās like leaving a wide receiver wide open near the red zone in football. Go watch the highlights of all our games. We let teams go right in without tieing them up or boxing them out. Soft as butter.
This can be solved with a coach that explicitly coaches them to do it. We had the roster to be in 1st place this season.

0:30– whole heartedly agree. We deserved at least a point. Iām hoping this losing skid does SOMETHING for these guys. If you ask me, itās not totally on coaching. If the players played pissed off, it would at least be entertaining. Iām just not seeing it. Some nights it looks like most guys are just collecting a check. If there WAS passion and frustration we would see it. Pouting after a game definitely pisses off the fans, why doesnāt it piss off the actual players who have the control and millions of dollars to do it??
Over half the game the Sabres played with no effort & they ended up looking like they were constantly in a PK situation. As the 3rd period rolled on I never felt the Sabres would tie the game.

The way we start games is on coaching it is a coaches job to get the boys ready for battle and prepare them for battle
I saw a play that sums up Buffalos problem. Filip Forsberg got in on a breakaway in the 3rd period, UPL makes a game saver on it then 2 Sabres come in and go to UPL and not lay out Forsberg who is digging at the puck.
Last year 30+ shots would have been at least 3 goals.
it is official, no playoffs this season. and it is not about the goaltending. it is about scoring, the pp, the physicality. Granato has no plan for that, at least i cannot see one. "it is all about developement", no, it is about winning!

Why is Krebs still on the team ? He skates around in his own end then passes the puck to the other team so they can walk right into a prime scoring opportunity !! Vegas has to be laughing at what they gave up for Eichel.
This doesnāt look like a team with only 8 mil cap space . we look like weāre at the salary cap floor ):
I hate to say that but, although everybody screams a change you don't want to pull the trade right now that will hurt this team in a long run.
That's the last thing you want to do as a GM I believe, nobody is going to throw you a rope if you are down in the hole in this league.
Again, it's a good test for this team and this stretch is just showing us all that they are simply not ready yet to take a step.
If last year was this year, and this year is last year. It wouldn't be so bad trying to understand this team. A year ahead of schedule put us, one year behind the eight ball. If that makes more sense to anyone about the decisions being made ?.
A good tidbit to come out of this game is, Olofsson's trade value just creeped up a bit. Lots of GM's would like the way Ollie put the goalie to sleep on that play!
Olofsson is an offensive role player. He belongs on a contending team. The Sabre's (yet again) look years away from that.
You're right that UPL was good but the rest of the team does not have the scoring of last year. It seems that if it's so that Tage Thompson is going to be out for a while, that they trade for A Scorer.

There goalie was on ,and same with shots ,simple straight shots from us that weren't hard saves ,24 player of game 4 me,Mitts needs to get out of the rut,we never seem to win the 1st period

key bank center feels like a neutral site, not buffalos home barn, for various of reasons.. the attendence, yeah.. but more so just the energy of the building itself.
some teams have the benefit of playing in a home arena that feels like an extra player.. montreal, boston.. buffalos home games feels like a dud every time.
And of course Tuch is injured now
Weāre nearing the point where we can give up on making the playoffs and make this another ādevelopmentā year. Weād have to win another 35 games to make the postseason. Highly unlikely.

Another game where the lack of scoring bit us. We got the goaltendingā¦ but you still have to score and we didnāt get it. Honestly, I think with Levi playing and getting rounded into shape in Roch. that when comrie gets hurt again.. heālll come up and probably grab the reigns and never let them go…
