  1. 2014 we got demko but drafting goalies can easily backfire it was a 50/50 risk imo eveyone else bust

2015 boeser, nothing note worthy after

    2016 complete wash

2017 petterson nothing else note worthy

2018 hughes nothing else note worth

2019: podkolzin and hoglander are good players that might get better hoglander has been playing well. Podkolzin has to potential to be a top 6 and potential bust only time will tell.

2020 and 2021 complete wasted since he traded away draft picks are are doing nothing for us except garland who is fine but not worth what was traded away

Conclusion: dumb luck saved benning from being burned at the stake

  2. Yep, Demko is the gold standard of Benning draft and development. Wasn't he the only player they developed under Benning? After all Quinn and Petey stepped right into the NHL a year after they were drafted. One reason I'm positive on the new regime is how committed they are to developing the kids in Abby.

  3. Patrik Allvin was a good scout turning into a good GM. It depends on the person's ability rather than assuming good scouts can't be good GM.

  4. His draft record is hit and miss but nothing after the first round. What the real problem were his trades. I've gone through it and there are nearly 10 franchise altering awful trades in the Benning era.

  5. Both McCann and Virtanen were both rushed to the NHL, to a large degree because of how the Canucks roster forwards were mailing it in and these prospects were the only ones who were giving 100%. McCann really turned things around after leaving Vancouver's terrible development system, but Virtanen's character deficiencies just got worse and worse, and management couldn't bring themselves to move on from Jake until things went completely off the rails. It was the same with only moving on from Gaudette, after he went partying in the lockdown and gave the plague to the entire team, after some inconsistent play and again maybe not the best development once arriving in Vancouver.
