When I was younger, I went to the Johnny Bower goalie school. Near the end of the week, Johnny himself came in and met all the kids, shook hands and took pictures and such. He must have been in his early seventies. He then laced up his skates, donned a pair of old leather pads, skated out on the ice, and demonstrated to all the kids, maybe 30 or so young goalies, how to poke check. He didn’t hold back either – laid out on the ice, full extension poke checks to knock the puck off the coaches sticks bearing down on him. Then one by one had us each try and critiqued us. That was super cool.
