The Detroit Red Wings have made it known that head coach Jeff Blashill will not return next season.

My feeling the Wings, will look at Dave Tippett, Lambert, Larionov, Gronborg. Stevie just don't bring in Torts. I also cannot see Babcock coming back .
The Red Wings do not fire head coaches very often. Only in the 1970's and 1980's did you see a constant change in coaches. It is just not the Red Wing way. I hope some one else hires these coaches they released.

Huge wings fan and I'm thrilled. Blash is a good guy but his system and philosophy isn't dynamic enough for what's about to happen with the wings. With this being the first off-season transaction in the Yzerplan, I can't wait to see what's next.
All we need now is to get lucky on Lottery Draft and get Shane Wright or Matthew Savoie and we're golden.

Good news Lego! Have you heard any news of Blashill moving on to the open Michigan State job? That is where I see him going. My front runners in Detroit would be Igor Larionov, Lane Lambert or Rickard Gronberg.
I think it's a good change of pace/faces. But I really hope wings fans don't truly think Blashill being fired will somehow make this team good. Because it won't. Coaching was our least of issues if i'm being honest. We have no depth, we have larkin, bertuzzi, raymond, seider, vrana. Everyone else is not good, and not helping us win any games.

Pretty amazing he lasted 7 seasons in Detroit. An average NHL Head Coach tenure is 2.4 years yet he got 7 seasons. Stevie Y was extremely generous keeping him on after last season. At least he realized he had to fire him or turn off the fanbase. Because going through another season with Blashill as head coach would have caused a big dip in attendance if they kept up the bad product on the ice. I think fans and players by year 7 tuned out Blashill and his nonsense.
I kind of want Detroit to sign Boko Imama in the offseason if he is available, I think he's Yzermans pick originally and he could be great in our bottom 6 😁

Imagine the hate Yzerman would get if he said that he's extending Blashill's contract. After a disastrous second half there was no way Blashill was keeping his job. But I do believe that if the team played the second half like they did the first half and barely missed the playoffs by about 10 points or less Blashill would be keeping his job. In the first half of the season they were in competition for a playoff spot and even held down one of the wild card spots for quite some time. Blashill completely mismanaged the second half.

I do think it's time for a coaching change but this team is short on talent. Closer than recent years but they are quite a few players short. I have confidence in SY though.

I fully support this especially if Fedorov comes in as an assistant. The game nowadays is about speed, skill, and puck control. What did the Russian 5 do and have back then? Makes sense to me.

My natural reaction when I found out yesterday was loudly screaming "Thank God, FINALLY!" Jeff Blashill was never an NHL caliber coach. His cap was always AHL and should have stayed there.

We need a coach that won’t mess with lines, i said it earlier this year but I saw a game where givani smith was on larkins wing, and smith is a good player but he’s a role player, not a first line winger that should be paired with Larkin, stuff like didn’t make sense and thats what makes it hard to make a case to keep him, i just hope we get someone in there that has a clear vision with this team, someone who understands the players and someone that can get them to play the best they can every night.

Blashill was the head coach for far too long, considering how the team should have developed better year after year.But that never happened, but always the same miserable confusion from season to season..
