MacEwan match penalty on Tkachuk – Have your say!

Zack MacEwen received a match penalty for this outburst on Matthew Tkachuk, cutting him open around the outside of the right eye. Was it justified?

  1. This is not in any way connected to hockey. If he wants to fight Tkachuk. he should at least do it in a way that gives Tkachuk a chance to defend himself. This is not a fair fight. I find MacEwan guilty of checking to the head, instigating, needlessly endangering an official and beeing an aggressor in the fight. This needs to be punished severely with a long suspension and a fine will not deter him from doing this again.

  2. Makes sense that they called a match penalty on this. I bet MacEwan thought it was a worthwhile trade off. Scraps are always better when both parties agree to it, but Tkachuk’s a pest (on purpose), and he doesn’t typically square off with anyone unless he has the jump on them…so I’m weirdly ok with it?

  3. Tkachuk did a dirty hit from the back, and got laid down. I think max is a double minor due to it being a response to an also illegal hit.
