Last night, we got the 2nd round in 3 nights of the Battle Of Pennsylvania! A game in which Crosby had an opportunity to make NHL history to become the highest scoring player against the Flyers at 125. I thought it would be fun to take a little trip down memory lane to look at how a 24 year old Sidney Crosby renewed the classic Battle of PA Rivalry in the 2012 playoffs. I cover that and last nights game in todays NHL hockey video!

Total Stanley Cups:
Sidney Crosby – 3 (2005-present)
Flyers franchise – 2 (1967-present)
Can't believe that 2012 series was 11 years ago. It was a perfect blend of Giroux and Crosby both playing like they were the best in the world, and the fact that both the Pens and Flyers were legit Cup contenders at the time. The series that year didn't go our way, but I think we did alright as Pens fans in the grand scheme of things.
watching since 95 and that 2012 playoff series was the best i ever watched … ok i'm Flyers Fan 🙂
what Crosby said ruined him for me. sounded like a spoiled 12 y old on schoolyard.
btw. Crosby also blocked Giroux joining the Canada Team that won the gold medal.
The Crosby Flyers damn
Penguins 🤝 Canadiens
Struggling Power Play
It was also the moment Crosby became a penguins legend
Just watched their back-to-back games (philly won both!) and the rivalry is dead. The animosity that was there is gone, the intensity is gone, guys were helping the other team up and making jokes around the net. The only Flyer still there from the rivalry prime days is Coots. Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek, Simmonds, all long gone. It was sad to see the two teams play each other like any other game.
One of the best rivalries in all of sports
Letang and Malkin played bad and lazy in both games, i felt they didnt play to the end😄
Crosby heated things up this series but James Neal was the real villain. He gave Giroux a head shot that made him not be able to skate for a few seconds. Then he gave coots horribly late blindside hit. Crosby was the face of the team, but I always respected his play. Malkin and Neal and Cooke were all dirtbags.
Also, before the series, i was a little nervous for my Flyers to go up against the big bad pens, but that Flyers team was stacked. Giroux, voracek, simmonds, hartnell, briere, schenn, timmonen were all in their prime. Couturier was an up and coming star. They had a lot of promise…until Hextal came in. He total ruined what Girouxs career could have been
We don't like you either Cindy, little respect, no love lost. 😀 He was acting like a boy king/prince out there doing entitled clown stuff. It's not the points that make us hate the guy.
Might’ve been a mistake but the Penguins were not the reigning champs in 2012, Boston won in 2011 and the Pens hadn’t won it since 2009.
I hated that Talbot was on that Flyers team.
Ovie needs to be traded to Pitt
I cant believe a rebuild team can beat the pens in a shootout and then in an overtime.
Thats worse than losing to San Jose.. once..
man to put the penguins pp in perspective in that last 29 powerplays, its a full game assuming there was a major or double minor thrown in there of 5 on 4 that they havent scored.
and really, the state itself just sucks on pp's as the flyers had the same issue not long ago.
but what a game for goaltending
Crosby was the biggest cry baby when he said that he hates the Philadelphia flyers. He was always crying if he got checked. Philadelphia had a great laugh when Shitting Crosby said that I hate those guys. I was laughing everytime I saw him saying that. Looked just like a little kid who wasn't getting his way.
11 years later Crosby is still trying to grow in his mustache.
Something has been missing from hockey for some time now but seeing the rivalry show up has heightened my interest again. I remember the rivalry from the Red Wing Colorado teams back in the 90’s. That is what hockey needs to bring back.
You gotta remember, Crosby is like Pittsburgh Family. Lemieux was the breaker of Philadelphia.
Sid isn't a kid anymore. He's the man that takes on the mantle of Pittsburgh.
We have to admit that the rivalry is dead now. The players don't hate each other any more. The teams are weak and uninspired, also they lack personalities. Even when they met in 2018 that series was one-sided and the Flyers didn't even fight back when they were losing 0-7, 0-5, 1-5 in a row. I was dissapointed not only by the result, but mostly because I didn't feel any heat or hatred between the players. They have scored a lot of goals, but there was no spark in the games.
