GAME RECAP: Penguins at Lightning (12.06.23) | Guentzel Adds To Point Streak

The Pittsburgh Penguins traveled down to Tampa, Florida for their second matchup of the season against the Lightning. The Penguins have won the last five games between the two clubs and looked to continue that streak tonight. Tampa wasted no time getting their first goal. Tampa led 1-0 at the end of the 1st period thanks to a goal from Cirelli. Off the opening faceoff in the 2nd period, Tampa gained control and rushed into the zone. The puck went in the net, but did not count: a coach’s challenge by Pittsburgh revealed that the play was offside. Moments later, Tampa scored, taking a 2-0 lead courtesy of Kucherov. The Penguins had two power-play opportunities in the middle period. but were not able to convert on either. Jeannot added to the Bolts’ lead, making it 3-0 two-thirds of the way through the contest. Within the last minute of regulation, the puck took a weird bounce behind the net, catching a few of the Lightning out of position. Jake Guentzel shot the puck, got through a defender, and went past the goal line. This tally extended Guentzel’s point streak to 7 games. The final score was 3-1 in favor of Tampa.

  1. Rust being evaluated for another injury is just salt in the wound.
Can't imagine what this closed-door meeting could possibly yield.

  2. Wow I couldn't even watch the Third period. Giveaways giving up the Blue Line way too easily. This team is slow and soft. Does anybody on this team actually check the guy with the puck on the other team?
