The Edmonton Oilers seem to have a gem in the minors and his name is Tyler Benson. A kid who at 21 has managed to not yet play an NHL game for an Oilers organization that loves to play young talent. Is Tyler Benson the Edmonton Oilers solution for their second line? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Can’t wait to see him in preseason
Man night shifts finally over
Benson was such a silent threat, especially on the power play, this past year. He was seriously robbed of rookie of the year.
I actually watched Tyler when I was little and he was playing for the ssac lions
Benson needs every chance to make the big squad. I think he has the most talent of the prospects.(I better mention at forward before someone pipes up what about…insert dman).
That's it Oilers winning cup
Tyler Benson has legit potential . But that's what it is at this time.potential . He should have a realistic opportunity to make the Oilers this season . But he should start by making the team and working his way up the roster as he proves he can handle it . To many players for to many years have been forced up the line up . To end up crashing and burning due to being over exposed before they were ready . So denson makes the team and talent and coaching will create a climb up the line up as the season and seasons progress.
I wouldn't be apposed to letting him try he has great vision and can definitely get the puck to an area that's dangerous for a few shooters remember Adam Oates never shot the puck but became elite because he got Brett hull the puck in dangerous opportunities
Benson is a great playmaker and an excellent passer, not so much as a shooter, and neither is Nuge, really. Maybe if you put Drai/Benson together, and Nuge with McDavid.
I would say no, personally, not at the start. If Benny starts the year tearing off the league like he did last year, then sure, call him up and let him play. Tyler can be a PHENOMENAL player on the wing, and he is surprisingly fast and a bit of a dick to people when he wants to be, along with the ability to pass. He and Marody were both unbelievable on the Powerplay, even if the stats may not show it. When those two were together, the top line Powerplay was clicking, and the top 5-on-5 was on fire. He was playing with Marody and Currie most of the time when everyone was healthy and in Bakersfield. When Currie was up, he was playing with Yamamoto, which was FUN to watch, because of the fact that both of them are WICKED fast and CRAZY creative. If he gets played with Nugent-Hopkins on the second line, if you can get a pure sniper (or at least a guy who can score) on the right wing, and then some Powerplay time, watch both guys put up at least 50 assists. Maybe play him middle six if he gets called up, just to get him some ice time without petrifying him or stunting his growth.
Assuming that Holland doesn't pull him up at all, when his RFA season comes up, he WILL tear up the NHL as a rookie. I've talked with people who know Benny (host families, fan club members, etc) better than me, and he DESPERATELY wants to play in Edmonton. When he gets up to Edmonton, playing Benson top 6 WILL be the right idea.
Also, Yamamoto will be a great player in the NHL, he just needs to bulk up.
Guys a stud
He's going to get a chance to prove to the organization what he can do when training camp & the pre-season begins in September!! But it would be wise not to rush him & put all of these expectations on him. That can be sometimes detrimental to a young player's development.
They had 11 mil. Think they would of gotten a winger.
He’s a good one!
What if Tyler Benson became an elite winger how good would we be
I would not be disappointed if Holland did NOTHING before training camp and the pre-season, or even well into the season. because he doesn't have the cap room to make any significant deals anyway. No one knows, at this point, WHO from Bakersfield is ready to step up and earn a roster spot – someone like Benson earns even a middle six spot, it goes a long way to address their forward depth issues.A defenceman steps up and demonstrates he can handle even third pairing minutes, now Tippet has more options to work with. This doesn't cost the Oilers a cent in cap space.
In fact, if for instance a defenceman steps up and can replace someone on the current roster, Holland gets a chance to move a contract and add cap space. Now he can wait for any deals that come up mid-season and will still have the cap space to make a significant acquisition if it presents itself.
I want Holland to exercise the "patience of Job", wait to see where things are at a few games into the season, because like I said he doesn't have the cap space to do anything of any significance anyway..
This is what I’m thinking, but if he doesn’t pan out on the 2nd line that doesn’t mean send him to the minors again, let him work his way up to the 2nd line and play him on the third with cave and gagner
Bit of a stretch . But I hope you are correct .
I like the idea of having benson on the second line to start the season but I think he should spend another year in Bakersfield if he is not ready.. we don’t wanna have another Yamamoto or puljuarvii situation where we tried getting them in the lineup way to early. What do u think about Broberg going back to Sweden ? I was kinda hoping he was gunna play in the whl ..
All of the prospects including Bouchard are questionable to make an impact at the NHL level, regardless. That being said, I think it's best if you give the favorites like Benson , Bouchard and Jones another half season in the minors to continue developing before possibly getting called up for full time position
Well with the current wingers the oilers have I wouldn’t be surprised him on the second line at some point
There’s no other option.
If Benson can bring his game to the show, that would be so Huge for the Oilers. He made the AHL All-Rookie team last year, and there's a lot of players from that alumni who have turned into star-level NHL players. So there's a realistic chance he turns into an impact player for us. Still not a sure thing of course… not everybody can hack it in the show. But if he ends up with a trajectory similar to Jake Guentzel, that would solve a lot of our problems at forward.
What have you heard on the possible petrovich trade?? Tyler benson in a word interesting
Next year benson can go on on rnh line
